US TITLE SERIES TO HOST 2006 PRO EASTERN DIVISIONSALS

    June 23 – June 25

The US Title Series will return to DePue, Illinois for the second time in 2006 for a 3-day event June 23-25. Marvin/Integrity Windows and Doors is the host sponsor for the USTS third regatta of the 2006 season.

This race will serve as the Eastern Divisional Championship for the following classes:

    125cc Runabout 350cc Runabout
    250cc Runabout 500cc Runabout

    K PRO Hydro 250cc Hydro 350cc Hydro
    125cc Hydro 500cc Hydro 1100cc Hydro 700cc Hydro

Saturday’s 2 heats will constitute the Divisional Championship for the K PRO which will be the only class to race on both Saturday and Sunday. Typically, the 1100cc class would run 2 heats, but for this event the 2 heats will be divided, so that one heat is a 700cc race (limited to 700cc displacement engines) and the second heat will be an 1100cc race (open to all legal 1100’s).

Friday June 23 will be a sanctioned day of testing. Test times are tentatively set at 10AM start and 5 PM finish. All drivers must register prior to driving a boat on the race course, NO EXCEPTIONS!! K PRO’s will be allowed dedicated test time toward the end of the day. There will be testing on Saturday morning and limited testing Sunday, depending on local church schedules. Racing is targeted to begin around 12:00PM each day. Saturday night will feature the traditional pot-luck dinner, so please consider bringing a favorite side dish, casserole, desert or salad to share.

A large field is expected for this race, as double APBA points will be awarded. Boats from Florida, Georgia, New York, New England, Texas and all over the Midwest are expected to swell the number of entries to over 100 boats. The USTS wishes to thank the city of DePue for allowing us the use of the Lake and Park. And we especially wish to thank Marvin Windows for its continued support of our racing series. Marvin Windows is a great company and the USTS sincerely expresses its gratitude for Marvin’s support. Please consider Marvin/Integrity Windows and Doors for your next home or home improvement project.

It is still early in the season with the USTS high-points race is wide-open in a classes. Traditionally, this early summer race has been an extremely competitive event, as drivers tune their equipment and hone their driving skills for the upcoming PRO Nationals to be held on the same course at the end of July.

If you are a fan or outboard boat racing, this is a must attend event!!

                PRO Eastern Divisionals

Wow, what a great weekend of racing. Congratulations to all the divisional winners. Will provide some color as soon as I can get my head back above water at work.

Most importantly, no injuries. 2 drivers went swimming Saturday and the rescue crews were dry all day Sunday. Racing was very intense. This felt like the Nationals!!!

Remember, Eastern Divisionals for OSY 400 and 1100cc R will be held at the USTS constantine regatta.

A big thank you is extended to the fine folks at Marvin Windows, our sponsor for the weekend.

                    Kugler 350

Jeff ran a VRP 350 on Saturday. The proverbial nickel part cost him the Divisional Championship as he had a win, a DNS and another win. Gary Buskirk won the weekend with a VRP and Mark Stahl was third with a Rossi. Ike Yoder won the high jump competition . Fortunately, he was not hurt and will return for Constantine.

                      More on Depue

The dumb@%& award was a draw between yours truely and JP Jewabny
                      (certainly spelled wrong).

I got a lesson the importnace of adequately sized wheel blocks for your trailer when pitting on a slope. Fortunately, I hung on tight and slowed the trailer down, so that only the tires got a little wet. Of course, I have the smoothest legs in the house after being drug 15-20 feet across the gravel. I am certain that this will show-up in a photo.

JP won the 250 runabout free-style competition when his throttle cable became wrapped around some other engine part. Of course, at the same time the kill switch wire broke (may have been the other part) and he was stuck running 1/2 way open. A very nice series of circles and figure 8's with a lot of arm waving as JP tried to drown the engine. Good stuff!!

A Big Win in 350 Hydro

Gary Buskirk won his first USTS race at the 2006 PRO Eastern Divisional Championships. Gary garnered enough points in 350 hydro to capture his first USTS win. Of course, his crew gave him the tradidtional dunking.

How did Gary do it? He made good starts and ran very consistently. When a little misofrtune struck Jeff Kugler, Gary was able to capitalize on the opportunity.

This is Gary's second full year of competition. For this season, he purchased a brand new VRP 350 to go with a new Lowell Schumacher hydroplane. From there, Gary worked with his set-up as he dialed-in the engine steadily and became comfortable with both the boat and the speed of the class.

Congratulations Gary and we wish good look in the up-coming events. We know that Jeff will be looking to rebound. Plus, David Mitchell will back to defend his title. And, the west coast crowd will want to bring the National Crown back to the Pacific coast.
