With 165 entries ready to take on the 2014 USTS Nationals event at Depue, testing started at noon today and went through 5:30pm this afternoon with great weather, in the 70's today and wonderful water and only one incident as Tara Cook went out of the boat right at the end of the day. Fortunately no injuries and she will be ready to go tomorrow in the OSY 400 finals.
The day was absolutely beautiful with plenty of water on the course, and good Mayor Eric Bryant leading a group out at the mouth of Lake Depue, putting in the temporary dam, which this year is keeping the water in place, rather than having to pump it in from the river. The rains have left the lake with lots of water and the Title Series participants expect to take advantage of the conditions. The shoreline is loaded with trailers and into the field west of the restrooms with participants preparing to go.
The Depue Men's Club stand is open and great food there and along the lake front are ready to go, with the Beer Garden's open and doing business.
We want to thanks all of those who have added their names and efforts to be with us at the best water, best race course, and best sponsors to help to make what should be an outstanding Nationals with the best Pro boats and drivers. Lots of new carbon fiber boats to took to the water today and are prepared for a great weekend of racing.
The Depue Men's Club is honoring longtime Nationals participant at Depue, the late Howard Anderson of Edmonds, Wa. A very nice article is written in this years program with the ever smiling Anderson's picture in it. Later this weekend we will welcome Ashley and Colin Rucker to the Nationals, grandchildren of Howard's, with Ashley ready to take a ride in Howard's favorite class with Andrew Thirlby. Howard well known in the R-12 was honored in the year he retired by Nick Nothe, who put the R-12 on his capsule boat. Howard's wife Penny was informed of this and made sure that Howard was sitting next to me at the announcer's booth, when i read Nick's name and number. Tears of joy came easy to Howard and he sat there stunned that we would honor him, he who gave so much to this sport, was so humble, and so grateful to be a part of this great sport, was able to receive the love and admiration of his fellow racers and fans who heard the Anderson name for many years over the PA at Depue. He was so grateful that day that we would remember him, and I am sure that tears of joy are falling even as i write this. We love ya Howard and you made our world better because we knew you. God Speed my main man, God Speed.
Well we wil check in with you the next three nights to give you a run down as we complete each day of racing. Any where near Depue, get here, you will not be disappointed.
