Well July is here and Speedweek is just around the corner with Constantine and then a few days later we will be on the shores of beautiful Lake Depue for the 2014 USTS Nationals again with our long time sponsors and friends, The Depue Men's Club.
Constantine is always a welcome stop on the USTS tour and 2014 should be no different with over 100 entries expected as they were last year. I know I sure missed Joe last year and every time I hear or say Constantine, I can't help but remember those spindly legs in those shorts coming by and asking how many heats were left in the day as he planned out the timing for the drivers party on the patio. Will always miss him. Don't forget the Legion has that great breakfast on the weekend for not only the drivers and crews, but the locals as well. Can't beat the price and the friendly smiles.
Between Constantine and the Nationals at Depue, it should go a long way in setting some of our drivers up for the season long points championships to be honored at our annual meeting in Chicago, later this year. Some really tight fights going on as we have noted earlier and Todd Anderson will be back from Europe to take on the 125H folks. Todd finished in the top 10 in the World OSY 400 championships in Poland.
The Midwest has received regular rain fall and we see some minor flooding around the LaSalle area as we write this so with the help of the Illinois DNR capturing water with the temporary dam, we should have plenty of water and plenty of side by side racing at the Nationals. We so appreciate the efforts of Slick Solario and the Men's Club and the leadership of the mayor, Eric Bryant and look to seeing them and all the folks at the food stand in a few weeks. I have been following the planning of the Men's Club and know they met for a bit a few weeks ago to line it all out.
A little birdie(his father in law) gave me an interesting tidbit on Sean McKean and his travels. As you might have heard Sean was at the APBA nationals and won two titles, but one of his capsules suffered damage and will need to be repaired. Understand the master woodcrafter Derek Gelser may be on the job for that one before Depue. The tid bit was this though, Sean came up from Kingston and headed to my home state of Indiana, specifically to a little town called Madison...... Now I wonder what was going on there????? Oh yeah, the H-1 Unlimited guys were throwing giant rooster tails down there on the Ohio. Well Sean enjoyed himself at the race and got kidnapped to now be a pit crew member for the U-22 Webster Racing for the Gold Cup in Detroit this weekend. If you are in the Midwest this weekend good viewing areas are all around the course and would be fun to see Sean crewing for the U-22.
Lorraine, Chase, and Sean will head to the northland of the Thrilby Clan the week between the Gold Cup and Constantine, looking forward to seeing the Texas Flag boats on the water later this month.
We look forward to seeing you all in a few short weeks at Constantine, the Lord willing and the creek don't rise.
