The beautiful weather held in place for another great day of racing for the U.S. Title Series on Lake Andrea and as they ask, How were the races, my answer wonderful, everyone went home. My thanks to the city and to Pete Nydahl and his family for all the work they did to put this together along with the Title Series crew that makes it happen. 86 entries for the weekend and everyone going home is always a great thing.
Our first class up yesterday was to take the results of the Saturday K-Pro and add to them the finishes on Sunday. Brianna Payn picked up from Winter Haven and finished out front with 3 heat wins and a second. Brittany Wright and Lindsey McCrath continue to improve each race with both of them learning the starts and getting through the turns.

125R were up next and as I called it for Tim Small yesterday in the 250R, it was repeat, repeat, repeat, for JJ Walls of Danville, In driving the Prop Riders entry to 3 straight heat wins. JJ got out front at the start of each heat and no one was going to catch him, although David Jones and Jackson Hall, in his first race with a 125 tried everything they could to catch him. JJ coming off a dream year in 2013 with 7 National Championships was pleased with his first win in the open Pro category.

Next up was the wildest 250H race I have seen in many years. Gun Jumping, motor troubles, missed bouys, you name it, but what great speed from all the contestants as Michael W. Schmidt in that beautiful design build of his jumped out in the second heat, while brother Eric worked his way through the field to pull within a few boat lengths of Michael, but was able to hold him off for a Schmidt one two finish. Both of them broke the course record set last year by 7 and 6 seconds for some real speed merchants. JP Jedwabny had won the first heat in fine fashion and it is great to see him back racing after taking the 2013 hiatus, doing what a Father should do, and that was spending last summer following his Son in his sports exploits around the country, congrats JP. Amy Nydahl had a few problems, but was able to parlay her finishes into the 3rd spot overall.
When it was all said and done it was a great weekend for Father Mike Schmidt and his two Sons as they finished 1st and 2nd in the 250 category and that will be a fine ride back to Connecticut this weekend.

In 700R, a few engine problems for Jared Gryskiewicz and Derek Gesler, but Mike Thirlby had that 700 singing his song as he finished out front of the other two. In talking with Jared that morning, I asked him about his 500R ride the day before as I noticed he had loaded up a couple of times. That was not all as he told me that in one of the heats he headed off to the first turn and went to blurp the throttle to set the fin and oops, the throttle was stuck wide open, somehow he made it through the turn and was able to get it loose going down the back stretch.

First up in the second half of the program were the 175H with 9 hitting the starting line, unfortunately for Kurtis Nydahl and Eric Schmidt a little too earl and Todd Anderson won a hard fought victory in the heat while taking a second heat win as well. Kurtis came back to take two seconds while Baylee Burkland, the 2013 Champ drove a good solid three heats to finish on the podium as well.

350R was next to hit the water with everyone chasing Rich Krier into the first turn and all four laps of the first heat. Rich had that thing going well and took the heat with good speed over the rest of the drivers. In the second heat Tim Small got out front, with Rich trailing the field, but worked his way all the way to second when coming through the bottom corner the boat took a great big hop and came down nose first on the water, turned to the inside and he missed the exit bouy coming off the turn, he then had to go all the way around, pick up the bouy and finished in the 6th spot. Not did it only cost him points, but the nose took some damage and has a hole for brother Mike to fix, before we head to Winona, Mn, the next stop on the Title Series Tour. That opened the door for Tim Small to take home the title. Otherwise they two of them would have been tied on points as they would have equal one two finishes for setting up a donnybrook in the 3rd heat. But Tim had a great weekend, winning the 250 and 350 crowns this weekend. Joe Franch from Elko, Mn. drove a great steady race to finish on the podium with us.

The last class of the day was the big 1100H with 8 boats entered. The first heat saw Doug Hall having a great start and was never headed in the heat and took the win, setting a new course record. In the second heat a whole gaggle of them ended up jumping the gun with Mark Griskiewicz and Ike Yoder the only two legal boats. That set up an interesting battle with Mark leading the points by 169 points going into the final, unfortunately for him, he took a third while Doug driving that GRM monster, prepared by his Dad Rex, took the heat and the overall win for the Hall team. Speed was the word of the day in this class as everyone was running well. Amy Nydahl suffered a motor issue in the second heat, but compiled enough points to end up on the podium as well.
