The day dawned cool, but not the 50 degree temp we raced in last year. The day progressed into a fantastic day for racing and racing is what we had.
First up were the 7-250Rs and you can say repeat, repeat, repeat, as Tim Small had the 5 boat singing his song as he finished with 1200 points with 3 straight heat wins. The rest of the field was racing for second, but believe me it was a spirited run at that. JP Jedwabny, coming back after a layoff of most of last year, finished great heats to take 2nd and Rich Krier put 2 seconds together, after missing the first heat.

Next up were the 6-350Hs with Gary Buskirk, the US National Champion in the USTS, took home the title with Amy Nydahl doing everything she could to take a win, but she burned a piston in the first heat, and came back and won both of the other heats for second overall. A steady Ike Yoder finished in the 3rd spot to finish on the podium.
Jeff Kugler looked to be strong in his brand new Pugh Hydro and in testing and coming up for the start, all looked good for a guy who could put it together in his kneel down he used for so many years. Unfortunately he ended up in the drink and he and Amy collided in the corner, but she was a
able to continue on for that second spot, while Jeff had a brand new hole, in that brand new boat.

9-125Hs came to the starting line with a real donnybrook of a race. David Jones led the entire way, only to hear me call out that he had jumped the gun, not by much, but over the line indeed. That paved the way for Jake Quesse to win, with Tod Anderson finishing second. Todd went on to win a heat and finish third in the other to take the win. David came back to take a win and a 2nd to finish second overall with David Tenney finishing third after 3 third place finishes. Jake unfortunately after the win was not able to finish the 2nd heat and finished 4th in the last heat.

After the break, 11-500Rs roared to life and just thundered Lake Andrea. Jared Gryskiewicz the 2013 National Champion in the USTS Nationals found himself in the familiar territory of being out front in the first heat as Brian Payn finished second with Pete Voss finishing 3rd in that heat. From there it kind went downhill for a few folks. Drew Thirlby continued to look very strong and was running well, but he and 5 other drivers jumped the gun in the second heat and it opened the door for Payn, Voss, and Brennan Burkland, who finished 1,2,3. The 3rd heat was all important as everyone was mixed up like cement in points. Gryskiewicz had trouble with loading up, Derek Gesler had trouble coming off the beach and conked out just passed the starting line, but in the heat, Pete Voss took a slug of water, blew the bottom of his 500 out from the steering wheel back to the transom and the heat was called. Pete was a little sore, but was okay and was joking about it at the award ceremonyThis is what Derek needed and promptly went out and won the 3rd and final heat. Unfortunately he was one of those caught jumping the gun in the 2nd heat and finished out of the money, but showed great speed in the self built 500R.
In the meantime, as I said the door opened for Brian Payn, driving the Jim and Pat Wright entry to take home the title by 20 points over Jared and Pete Voss

6-500H's were standing at the ready as the last class of the day and they did not disappoint the good sized crowd here in Pleasant Prairie.
Jim Wright led them up to the line and ran away with the first heat, but all was lost as he had jumped the gun, and that opened the door for Rick Saver who finished out fro, while Doug Hall, running that GRM monster of his, had to come off the course and did not finish the heat. Doug came back and won the next two heats, but could not overcome the points from 3 heats that Rick was able to amass with a first and 2 seconds. Tom Adkins, finished on the podium again for the second race in a row, and had to feel good after having some trouble on the road getting here.

In the two heats of K-Pro that were run, we had 3 young women as we did in Winter Haven Fl, but Lindsey Mc Crath was the driver instead of
McKenzie Hellsten, with Brianna Payn, 2013 National Champ taking one heat and Brittany Payn taking a heat, Lindsey finished in 2nd in one heat and 3rd in the other, but great racing amongst these youngsters. Looking forward to 2 more heats tomorrow.
