  • "Pops" Small Passing

Tim emailed me this morning to let us know Pops passed on in his sleep last night. He had taken a turn for the worst a few days ago. Pops loved boat racing more than anything and had requested that in lieu on flowers a donation can be made in his name to the USTS. Pops had all intentions of going with Tim to the Nationals again this year, I guess he will be watching with lots of good company. The USTS family sends our heartfelt condolences to the Small family.

i was so glad i started running pro so i had the opportunity to get to know tom. i hadnt driven a runabout since the mid 80s and swore i would only run hydros but tom talked me into trying a 125r and i thoroughly enjoy the class. i especially enjoyed keeping him supplied with cookies at the races. i will miss seeing him at the races.
my deepest sympathies to the small family.
        sincerely

                Tim, Tom and Small Family,
We talked at the last race about how we missed Pops not being there. Tim said Pops was looking forward to coming to Constantine and DePue. He was getting to be a regular at the Yankee Racing trailer after the races. We will keep a chair for him, and somehow I am sure his spirit will be filling it as he did all our lives.
You are in our thoughts and prayers,
                The Payn family and Crew
