US Title Series Returns to Lake DePue June 17th-19th
Close to 100 boats are expected to compete over the weekend
Lovely lake DePue will hear and feel the scream of highly- tuned racing engines once again when the US Title Series returns for its annual spring regatta. Friday, June 17th will see Professional Racing Outboard teams from across the Midwest and East Coast put in a busy day of testing equipment in preparation for Saturday and Sunday’s racing. Based on early feedback, a large turnout of boats is expected at the race. Many teams dropped-off their equipment trailers Memorial Day weekend, as they returned east from a successful race in Omaha, Nebraska.
The race over Fathers’ Day weekend is significant for several reasons. The race is the second in a six race series that will award drivers with cash prizes based on their ***ulative point total at the end of the series. The 2005 series has shaped-up to be the most competitive in recent history in most of the 10 racing classes. Drivers know that every point earned can be the difference between finishing in the money or going home empty handed. Secondly, DePue will once again host the Professional Racing Outboard National Championships at the end of July. Drivers know that every lap around the race course can put them in a better position to prevail over the competition during the National Championships. Teams will focus on set-ups, racing lines and strategy in preparation for the Nationals. Finally, the water conditions in June are generally favorable and the race committee is able to layout a very fast race course for the competitors. All the drivers want to win at the spring DePue race in order to gain a psychological advantage over the other drivers.
Practice sessions on Friday June 17th will begin at 10 AM and will last until 6 PM. Saturday morning will see testing in two one-hour sessions in the morning with racing beginning at 12:30 PM. Sunday morning will feature testing in the late morning hour with racing beginning again at 12:30PM. This year’s race will again feature hydroplane and runabout style boats utilizing race engines varying in size from one cylinder 125cc engines to multi-cylinder 1100cc’s. Many classes will achieve speed s in the range of 85MPH to 110MPH while negotiating the approximately 1 mile race course.
Many well known drivers and race teams will be in attendance including Thirlby Racing Team , Hellsten/Ellison Race Team, Bosnich Racing of DePue, Team Krier, Litzell Outboard Marine Service, Elderege Family Racing, MSR Racing of Connecticut, DuPont Race Team from Minnesota, Team Small of Florida and many, many more.
The public is invited to this event each day. Crowd favorite Ray Rodda will call the action on the water Saturday and Sunday.
