  • Usts bartlesville, ok

Remember the movie Maverick, when they were playing cards and it was found that one of the guys was a gunslinger and Maverick pulled his gun before the kid new what the heck happened and Jodie Foster kept asking was that fast???? Well someone today kept saying is that hot, heck yes it was hot 98 degrees and counting, YIKES...... Oh the racing was hot as well

Brent Johannsen does just a great job of putting this all together and we appreciate what he does for the USTS.

500R led us off today and the question was, " Was Andrew Thirlby fast, well was he??? He took 2/3 heats going away, and i mean going away. The GunJumping police got him in the second heat though and that opened the door for his dad Mike to put together 3 good heats to win over all, with Andrew second and Jared Gryskiewicz finishing 3rd.

Brian Payn scared the bejeebers out of us as in the 3rd heat going past the middle pin in the 1st turn that runabout jumped off the water and went skyward, the back of the boat, a good 3 to 4 feet off the water. It rolled left, came back right, and came down on the bottom like a ton of bricks, but right side up. I think his knees were probably through the bottom, but Brian was okay. He said when it went up it was a surprise, and thought oh this is going to hurt, but providence was with him and all turned out well.

350H came up next with a real donneybrook headed to the 3rd heat with Josh Burton, Gary Buskirk, and Amy Nydahl, all with 600/625 points headed to that all important 3rd heat.

Buskirk, the 2013 National Champion and USTS High Point Champ took the lead with Josh right behind him, Amy was off the pace with a loaded up endgine, but eventually ended up off the course and left it to Johsh and Gary. Josh was catching him in the 3rd lap bottom corner, but the boat hooked a bit coming out and Gary Set sail for the win.

    Gary, Josh, and Amy Burton

125H If heartbreak hotel was open, Todd Anderson would be a charter member as he had won the 1st two heats only to watch not only the overall win slip away, but his defense of the Hi Point 125 championship go away as well, when his engine stopped on the backstretch. 2013 National Champion and now 2013 Hi Point Champ for the USTS, Pete Kelly blew through the open door to take it all. Shannon McGrath tood a great finish to the 1st podium I believe for her.

Our thanks to Pete Nydahl who put together two 125H to two of our fellow NBRA brothers, Braxton Miller and Layton Owens. They race in the modified division of NBRA and live down in the Grove, Ok area. Braxton should be the overall HiPoint Champ for NBRA this year with many wins and top three finishes this year. Layton won the OSY400 USTS Nationals at Depue last month. They did very well with 4th and 5th place finishes here this weekend. They will be in the 175H chase tomorrow. Thanks PETE NYDAHL!!!!!!

    Todd Anderson
    Shannon McGrath

250R came up next with Paul Bosnich protecting a small lead for the USTS High Point, but had no luck in this race. Mike Krier took 2 1st place finishes and a 3rd to take it over Tim Small, USTS High Point winner in 250R and Brian Payn for 3rd. Brian had won a heat, finished 2nd in the next, but his motor let go in the 3rd, but had enough points to take 3rd.

K-Pro is so competitive this year, just plain fun to watch them. Jackson Hall, son of Doug, and Grandson of Rex took 2 1st place finishes and a 3rd and rode his second race of his career to the first win of it. A dunking bath was had in the Hall pits. Congrats Jackson and well done in line with your heritage. Brandon Mills did a great job and had a first and 2 2nds to take 2nd overall, with Parker Thirlby doing a great job of holding on to third in a couple of his heats to finish on the podium.

    Brandon
    Parker Thirlby

To finish off a great day for the Hall family, Poppa Doug finished off 3 heat wins in that brand new Pugh hydro. Doug has such great speed in the straightaways, but Jim Wright got inside of him in the 3rd heat and took the lead until the last corner when Doug was able to get around him for a perfect 3 heats. Rick Saver drove through a bouy and had it attached for about 2 laps, but was able to finish strong in the other two heats with Ike Yoder finishing on the podium in the 3rd spot.

    Doug
    Rick
    Ike Yoder

As they say, a great day of racing, everyone went back to the hotel or the campers.

Looking forward to a great day of racing tomorrow.
