A beautiful day of racing concluded our opening weekend of speed weeks in Constantine, Mi. Albeit a downer when we learned that Dan Kirts had taken ill after the racing concluded and is now hospitalized. Get Well Dan!
In the 125R class, Paul Bosnich did the old 1,2,3 routine to take home the title at Constantine. Tim Small, in the Ed Provini rig, can only wonder as he was unable to keep the motor running in the first heat, but won the next two. Todd Anderson continuing a strong summer for him, finished in the second spot on the podium as well.
In the 700R, Pete Voss took it home as he won the first heat going away and just did an outstanding job at the start and got away from everyone going down the backstretch. RC Howie chasing him finished second in that heat and combined the two heats to take 2nd overall. Derek Gesler who had a problem in the first heat took the 2nd heat by a wide margin as Pete Voss threw a blade, but nursed it home to finish out the day with the win.
We started with 11 250H's and believe me they did not disappoint us with racing at every part of the course going full blast. A number of gun jumpers and engine problems caused some to not be there for points, but there is no denying that BJ Tetro had it going Sunday. He clearly won two heats of racing no matter who jumped and finished 2nd in the other heat. It was great to have Josh Burton back on the water with the USTS as he gave a great accounting of his talent as a second podium finish of the weekend found him taking the 2nd place medal. Amy Nydahl won a heat and finished 2nd to BJ in one to take the 3rd spot.
In 175H, Kurt Nydahl was the class of the field as he won both heats by wide margins with Baylee Burkland getting the first podium finish for her in the second spot and veteran Charlie Bradley getting third overall.
In the 1100H category, can you say SEAN MC KEAN????????
Holy Buckets, I have not seen that kind of speed as long as I have been around boat racing. He was letting off the throttle about 50' past the starting line to set up for the tight first turn at Constantine. When you look up speed in the dictionary, there will be a picture of Sean.
In the second heat he started dead last with 7 other 1100's as Amy hit the start beautifully and led for 3 laps until Sean worked his way to second and then got by her on the backstretch of the last lap. Running Amy down does not happen very often, but in this case, Sean had it rolling.
Dan Kirts finished a solid 2nd to add to his 500H win on Saturday and Ike Yoder finished 3rd for his 3rd podium finish of the weekend. Please keep Danny and his family in your prayers.
In 350R, you could not have asked for a more exciting 3 heats of racing. Going into the 3rd and final heat, Rich Krier and Brian Payn had traded heat wins with each getting a 3rd in the other heat, while Mike Krier held the second spot in the two heats. So you had 2 with 625 points and Mike with 600 headed for the final heat. Mike rarely will start all the way to the inside and Brian wants to hug the buoy line. Mike got inside Brian at the start and it was a donnybrook from there on out, with Mike taking the win, Rich, second, and Brian third. What a heat of racing!
Glad to see that Jay Anderson, who flipped coming for the start in the first heat was able to rejoin the field for the 3rd heat.
Again thanks to Denise and her crew along with Todd Brinkman that kept us moving along. A big thank you to Paul , Big Pal, Bosnich , who keeps all of us straight and narrow and wears so many hats at our races. Thanks Paul!!!!!!!!
