The Icebreaker regatta was held at Pleasant Praire, and I do mean icebreaker, as the temp was about 53 degrees all day. A great day of racing though as the USTS crew worked hard to keep it going as usual. Thanks to Sue and Todd for the extraordinary work, with Sue and her sister Denise, Abby, Bev, Kelly, Sue, Tiff, and now I know I am in trouble and forgot somebody, please forgive.
We had a little communication problem as the capsules were unable to run as the Villiage of Pleasant Prarie does not allow any, but city employees diving at the lake and they were un-available to us this weekend and we could not use our own divers, so capsules were on the beach as they say. This was not an issue for anything else but as stated as to the water only to with the villages divers.
The day started with an emotional tribute to Marty Stahl by his Son Mark who took a lap at the beginning of our program to honor in the famous W-8 and received the checkered flag in Marty's honor. Marty was called home last week by Him to sent us here to the earth and is back from whence he came. Although Marty will be remembered by some for his boat racing, there are many of us who will remember him for what he was, someone who made the rest of us better than we could be on our own. For that I will be eternally grateful and look forward to basking his light once again.
I will just narrative the day with overall results below. Tim Small, ran off 3heat wins and was fast, very fast and sets himself us as the guy for the nationals. Gary Buskirk was unreal fast this weekend and he and Michael W. Schmidt duked it out with Gary winning 2/3 heats. A new sheriff came to town in the 125H as Jake Quesse although winning 2/3 heats, finished 2nd overall due to jumping the gun, but Jake showed great speed, but Todd Anderson, the defending Hi Point Champ in the USTS 2012 season is on his way to defending the title with this win.
A great day for Brianna Payn started with her first time in a racing boat, pretty tenative at first in testing, but as the day wore on you could see the confidence in the way she was handling a race boat at speed was coming along quickly. Congrats to Parker for the win, and thanks to Kurt Nydahl for stepping up and getting into the class so that the others could run.
Pete Voss, the veteran had a great day and finished out front in the 500R with 3 2nd place finishes to Brian Payn 2/3 and to Mike Thirlby 1/3. Unfortuantely for Brian he had jumped the gun in the first heat and then conked out in that heat with Mike taking the win and them Mike blew it up for the 2nd heat, with Brian taking the next two. Brennan Burkland drove a great race with 3rds in all three heats in the Burkland family entry.
