  • Usts lake alfred sunday

A calmer day of weather started on Sunday, as the wind was down, the lake flattened out, and drivers itching to get to that water. We held off testing until noon to allow our churches quiet time before the bumble bees started their dance on the water.

We started with a bang as Michael W. Schmidt put a hole in the right sponson in testing and took a bath. Michael was okay and after the clean up we put them back on the water for about 20 minutes of testing.

From Memory guys and gals and you know I am short there too.

    125R
Can you say Paul Bosnich of the Prop Riders entry had his luck for the moment change, yes you can. Paulie went out and won the 125R with great wins in the 1st and 2nd heats. Paul was pulling away in both of those. Tim Small driving the Ed Provini entry with Dom unable to be there was a factor until the engine gremlins hit him. Andrew Thirlby driving a very steady race with great starts in his heats finished on the podium again.

    Andrew
    David or Tim

What a bang this was as 10 of them headed off to the first turn, only to have Chris Hellsten take a bath, but was okay, red flag and we get to do that one again.

Amy Nydahl took home the 1st heat rerun and everyone else was chasing. In the second heat, we had David Mitchell go over in the first turn and red flagged again. Both drivers were okay fortunately and Amy went right back to the front again. 3rd heat a little anti climatic, but again Amy for the perfect 3 heat win. Eric Schmidt was super fast and ended up on the podium as well as Chris Hellsten who came back in heats 2/3.

Should be an interesting ride home for Brian Payn and Rich Krier, they finished one two in the category, with Brian winning all 3 heats over Rich in heats one and two, and over Zach Malhiot in the 3rd heat. Rich put Brian in the trailer from Iowa as brother Mike tending to farming was not with us. If I were Rich Brian would have to drive all the way home after treating him like that....LOL

The second half of the program kicked off with a sterling duel in 175h between Kurt Nydahl and Eric Schmidt. Side by side for 3 laps. Eric ended up taking it over all with Charlie Bradley getting good seat time took home the other podium finish. The 175's are amazing to watch with the kind of speed they are running with these engines and think that it will fill out well as we go along.

In 700R Mike Thirlby ran off with the 1st heat as he was trapped in the back, but watching him go down the back stretch it was like a rocket ship. This class has shown real promise with 8 entries both weekends, with others who were not able to be there, look for exciting runs as we move north. In the
2nd heat, Mike's pistons were swapping holes, but Derek Gesler who had a tremendous start ran off with the 2nd heat easily, although he stood it just about straight up coming down the front straightaway in the 2nd heat. Pete Voss just keeps going and going and did a great job here as well.

    Pete???

1100H was the Amy Nydahl show as it was last weekend with a perfect 2 heat win for her. David Hooten, Jim Kirts were not going to be left in the dust either as they both had good runs, along with Tom Adkins in that new ride to him with the 32 blue and white boat. Tom has been out of racing for about 5 years and has come back and is having fun.

The Title Series wishes to thank all of our drivers who made this a two race success story with over 80 entries for each week. We have set a foundation that will grow as we move forward and only from the support of our drivers and officials as we move forward.

My thanks to the best crew in boat racing who make this so seamless it is incredible. Thanks to Sue Sailer and Todd Brinkman for their leadership which makes this thing run like a sewing machine.

my apologies to Ike Yoder, it was he who got the podium finish in addition to Amy and David. Also it was Tim Small in 125R. I told you I was short on memory#TR$SD$#^T#
