A successful weekend for Riverfront Recapture and for sure the USTS, was capped by great racing again on Sunday, but overall the best news, not one driver hit the water this weekend.
We started off the day with the 2nd heat of Top Hydro as Amy Nydahl was trying to put the rest of the TH's away, but a loose rear cowling allowed water to get to the engine and she found herself a spectator for this heat. David Hooten had incredible speed, but Ike Yoder was no push over as he and David did the same thing that David and Amy did yesterday with David taking the heat right at the end by a boat and half length. That set David up with 700 points to start the 3rd heat later today.
125R came up next and David Jones was very fast in the D-10e, and we missed you terribly David Tenney! David took the first heat over Andrew Thirlby and Travis Ellison. Paulie Bosnich came out for the heat, but went dead during the milling. David came out guns blazing in the second heat and it was repeat as Paulie got it going and was side by side with David coming out of the bottom corner, only to have the boat take a big hop and the motor came to halt after loading up and Andrew Thirlby was right there to take 2nd and Travis the 3rd spot. In the 3rd heat, Paulie was out to make a statement and did he ever as he won the heat, but the big news was David went dead in the water on lap 3 and could not finish. Andrew and Travis were right behind Paulie and Andrew with 3 2nd place finishes did exactly what he needed to do, finish 3 heats and took the title.

Next up was 250h with 9 boats on the course made for some interesting milling and even more on the race course.
In the first heat Amy Nydahl showed the boys a quick way around and finished well out front with Chris Hellsten and Michael W. Schmidt running 2nd and 3rd.
A second start was needed for the 2nd heat of 250H as Amy found her self just off the end of the exit bouy for turn one and we needed to call the heat. In the restart, Chris Hellsten got out front of Michael W. Schmidt in the 3rd lap and took it home.
The third heat was a barn burner with Chris Hellsten trying to take it all home, but Eric Schmidt and Michael W. had other plans. Michael W. got out front with brother Eric behind him and Chris 3rd. As the heat wore on, Eric began to methodically chase down Michael and caught him on the last turn of the last lap and took it home. That cost Michael at least a tie with Chris as Hellsten took the marbles on this one.

would love to hear that discussion between the brothers over that heat. Eric had a camera up behind him on the cowling and he said he would post later tonight on YOUTUBE.

Rich Krier and Brian Payn were tied for the top spot with 700 a piece going to the final and he was not going to be denied. Rich had the inside spot, with Brian outside of Mike going to the 1st turn, Brian got around Mike, but Rich had taken off with the clean water and was never headed as he took home the title with 2 1st place finishes and Brian and Mike right behind

The last heat of the day included Amy Nydahl able to get back after the issues in the first heat of the day, and boy did the boys know it as she went off and hid in this heat. A steady three heats by David Hooten gave him the over all title and well deserved after a tremendous battle in the second heat with Ike Yoder.

congratulations to all particpants at Hartford, the racing was great, the crowd was estimated to be over 10k for the weekend and the way the pits were set up allowed the fans to stand behind the barriers and see into the hot pit area. Reminded me a lot of the Drag Racing pit areas witht the fans to get up close and personal.
Our thanks to the Hartford and E. Hartford Fire and Police depts along with the marine division to allow us great saftey both on the water and the beach.
The MDC one of the managing partners of the park, had everything spic and span and was a great venue again. THANK YOU TO ALL
Charlie Meyers shared with us the work load that his crew put together during the awards ceremony and we thank them for their efforts. Charlie pushed off our praise for him to his crew, but as he said, "he was only the ringmaster." What a ringmaster indeed.
