Saturday morning dawned bright and beautiful as the USTS took to the best River Course for viewing boatracing ever!!!! A crowd of over 4K(Police Estimate) hit the tree lined viewing area for some of the best races that I have witnessed in years. Even I got excited!!!!!!! Best part of all, no incidences at all.
Our first class up was 250R with Rich Krier and brother Mike, along with JP Jedwabny battling it out for the over all win. All three of them won a hotly contested heat as they beat on one another for all three heats of racing.
Rich ended up winning overall with 1000, Mike with 925, and JP with 850 to finish off a very competitive and fun 250R class.
Next up was 350h with Michael W. Schmidt, Amy Nydahl fighting a heck of a battle in the first heat with Michael coming out with the win and Gary Buskirk finishing 3rd. In the second heat Amy blew it up and did not run the rest of the heats, but Michael did not have an easy go of it as Gary Buskirk and Ike Yoder chased him in the 2nd heat as they finished in that heat. The 3rd heat was very exciting as Buskirk worked from the 3rd spot to catch Michael at the start of the 3rd lap and they went side by side for the last two laps with Gary taking the win by about a 1/2 of a boat length. This was an absolute dog fight as they both ran their fastest heat of the three in this one.
Micheal W. Schmidt
Gary Buskirk
Ike Yoder
Next up was the 500R rocket ships. RC Hawie took off in the first heat and was never headed as he covered the field with a boat that needed repair to the side from an incident at Depue. RC put it back together very well and it showed. In the second and third heats, the young gun, Derek Gesler took off and nobody and I mean nobody was going to catch him. He won the next two heats to take the win.

The first class up for the second half was 125h as we welcomed Bob Cronin to his first USTS race and he promptly went out and won the first heat going away. Welcome and congrats Bob. In the second heat Bob had some kind of a problem and he watched the 2nd heat from the inside of the course sitting. David Jones and Kristi Ellison traded paint as they say in the bottom corner of the 4th lap, with Kristi absolutely driven to win the second heat and she was not going to be denied as she took the win by a boat length. Kristi, the 2012 National champ ended up with a 1 2 3 finish, with David Jones ending up with 1 2 4 to finish 2nd overall to Kristi, with Todd Anderson continuing to improve in every race finishing 3rd.
In K-Pro Peter Crowley was untouchable as he took all three heats with the other drivers changing out 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes. We welcomed another new to us driver in William Audette and he did very well in his first USTS race.
Top Hydro had a very exciting 1st heat and will finish their other two heats tomorrow. In today's heat David Hooten jumped out front with Amy Nydahl the 2012 National Champion started in the 3rd spot quite a bit back. As the heat continued, Amy was slowly reeling him in, but the last corner was a sight to behold as Amy dove deep into the corner and came out of it with the lead an came away with a couple of boat length win.
Peter Crowley
Jake Quesse
William Audette
We look forward to tomorrow and what it will bring, but I doubt that tomorrow could be any better than today, but we shall see.
