  • 175cc Hydro...............

    Have been asking why 175 hydro isn't an approved class with USTS and have gotten no answers. David Tenney, Jimmy Aderholdt, and quite a few others are racing this class. What will it take to get it approved? It was approved enough to run the world championships this year at DePue............And Amy was running as fast as most of the 250's. Speak up anyone that has info on this.

    USTS Matters

    are best discussed at the USTS meeting in November. Prepare your case and present it to the board and other members.

        Might require By-Law change

        I have not looked at the USTS By-Laws for some years now, but the situation may be the same as when USTS was first formed. By that I mean that the By-Laws called for a certain number of classes to be run as part of the standard program, and NO more unless an existing class was dropped first for whatever reason.

        When RB was first approved by the PRO Commission myself and several others petitioned the USTS BOD for approval of the class, prize money paid from the regular income stream, and three heats of competition at each race.

        This request was never granted, regardless the success numbers wise the class enjoyed, because as previously stated, By-Laws prevented it. USTS did allow competition in the class as part of its regular program, but only two heats and no prize money paid by USTS.

        Bev Thrilby and I furnished the prize money for the class for the majority of the time it was run, two heats at each race until it was voted out in favor of 125 Hydro after about 15 years.

        Situations have certainly changed,boat numbers and competitors wise, so as David suggests get your ducks in a row and bring it up before the board if you feel stongly about it. Be forewarned, to make change in the USTS program is not easily done, will require some "politicking", and you need a thick skin to try to promote change and you may find out you were not as well thought of as you thought by some, no matter the work you put in for the organization.

        Nevertheless, it is hard to argue with success as USTS has been one of the few programs that has remained constant and successful during its lifetime, and certainly presents the premiere program insofar as PRO racing in the US. Most could go so far as to say it is PRO racing in the US. APBA might do well to remember that insofar as its treatment of it and its members and officers.

          This was true of 700 Hydro as well, for all the years it was run.

            The 175H has been run in the USTS for three years.Not all
            175H drivers support the class At all races.Call me if you
            have any quistions on this.
