The Race for Kids brought to you by Marvin Windows and Doors had a great day of racing and boat loads of fans for the first half of the program before the rains came.
We had a great field of boats for the first day with over 90 entires total. Everyone had a safe day and absolutely no one got wet, well the rain did fall.
First class of the day was the 250R
Paulie Bosnich took the lead in the first heat and had great speed on the course. Unfortunately they stuck one in the first heat while leading and Brian Payn took the win. Paulie went out and won the next two heats, Brian loaded up and could not make a good run at Paulie and steady, efficient, and effective Buddy Tennell was waiting for them both. Buddy finished with 3 seconds, knowing where he had to finish and knowing he needed to finish to take the title.

Next up was a group of ten howling 350H's.
David Mitchell was out for a Saturday drive in the first heat, started about 4/5 but drove around everyone and finished out front with Chris Hellesten who got trapped in the middle on the start finishing second to David and Gary Buskirk 3rd.
The second heat David never made it to the starting line as something catastrophic to the motor ended David's day. Chris Hellesten and Amy Nydahl were more than able to pickup the day and went on to finish one two in the other heats.
Fun to watch Amy take the Thirlby Automotive entry for 1100H for her first ride in a capsule and the smile could have lit up NY, NY when she climbed out of the capsule. Looking forward to tomorrow to see her run.

500R was up next with 10 of those screaming meemies. Wow is what you have to say about the show those guys put on.
Pete Voss put himself into a winning position for 500R with a 1st and 5th going to the final heat, but alas coming out of the pits he had a small problem that turned into him sitting on the water instead of being able to run. Tim Small was able to finish two heats out front in the 2 cylindar Rossi and took the title with great runs. Water was chopping up pretty heavily while the 500's were on the water, but Tim able to hold on to the lead in both heats he finished to win. Bryan Payn was able to pull two seconds and was able to finish there.

Then the rains came and it poured the wind howled and the spectators ran for cover. YIKES, did it ever rain.
We were able to get on the water about an hour later and the water was perfect for the 125H/K-Pro/500H classes to run later.
125H was dominated by David Tenney with a start of about 6th in the first heat, but able to track everyone down at the end of the heat. In the 3rd lap you had David, Brian Palmquist, Dom Difebo, and Eric Schmidt vying for 1st with a blanket over the 4 boats. What an exciting race to call. The part that hurt was three of those guys had jumped the gun, it was not David.
Second heat David out front from the get go and never headed. Brian Palmquest finished second and Abby Pond first time in a 125 also finished secon in a heat. This really mixed up the points for the 3rd and final with David having 800 points and no one really challenging for 1st, but a whole bunch for that 2nd spot.
David headed out for the 3rd heat, only to have something go south and ended up watching from the back stretch. Abby Pond had 569 points going in so a good run of a 1st or 2nd would have given her the title with David sitting this one out. Unfortuantely she loade up and could not get it to clean out and came in. Brian Palmquist went on for the win, but the BG gave him no points in the first heat and settled for 2nd. Kristin Hellesten who finished
3rd, in the first heat put enough points together to take a brand new Tec Craft to the 3rd spot overall
David Tenney
Brian Palmquist

K-Pro came up next and my thanks to Mike Thirlby for finding a 3rd entry at the last minute and paid the entry fee, so that we could put the K-Pros in the mix.
Vinnie Buskirk who continues to improve with ever race he runs, now running a 125H as well this year, took the two heat wins over Andrew Thirlby and Kurt Nydahl for the three heats. My thanks to Kurtis as well to fill out the K class.

500H brought and end to the day with Doug Hall performing the trifecta with a perfect 1200 points. This is so difficult to do with the Pro classes and we congratulate Doug and his Dad Rex, for the driving and wrench work that goes into a feat like this. Rex had that GRM purring around the course.
Sean Mckean had to 2nds going into the 3rd and final, but was unable to run the 3rd. David Hooten was on fire with that Koing, the problem was the clock as David was over twice by the tinest of fractions and was DQ'd in both heats finishing 3rd in a heat.
Ike Yoder the steady Eddie of boat racing picked off second place over Sean by just 94 points, but enough to give him second.

My thanks to the best of the race directors in the world and the finest scoring group in the country right now, I am entitled to that opinion, I am old.
But, I really do mean that as Sue Sailer and her group are top shelf.
Thanks to a tireless Gary Levin of the Race for Kids foundation for all the effort he has put in. I am sure he will be glad to see the traveling circus leave town.
