YouTube APBA 2011 Pro Nationals 1100cc hydro--Depue IL.
I am really glad to see that someone posted this heat video. It clearly supports the complaint I had about the start. Thank you to whom ever posted it.
HUMMMMMMMMMMMm I see so what ya think we can do about this in the future
Right now there is nothing we can do about what happened in the second heat of 1100. When the outside boat has a slight 1 foot lead and starts to angle towards the first pin, you either have to angle with him, out run him to the first pin, or back off and go behind him. This is caused by the cockpit to cockpit rule, where everyone that has an inch on you thinks they have the right to shove everyone else into the bouy. I think we should go back to the 1 boat length rule and then enforce it.

There will be talk about this ---some have mentioned maybe we should do something like UIM--hold lane till first turn exit pin???
The same thing happened in the 3rd heat of 250 hydro. Ben Thompson had the inside lane at the last turn buoy and another boat which came late decided to make a lane before the 500ft buoy and slide under Bens' boat and broke his turn fin bracket off the boat. Ben had a chance to win a championship but it was not to be.
I am not sure what the solution to this problem is either, but we need to collectively come up with one. If I would have been stubborn enough to hold my ground, there probably would have been a horrific 3 boat disaster. Instead, I chose to back off and save all 3 of us. It may have cost me a better finish overall, but at least we all went home in one piece and our equipment in tact. I know neither of these guys would do this intentionally as we are all like brothers. I just would have liked to see the outcome had I been able to stay in my position and race them to the finish. It would have been really exciting.
