The heat was on the water as well as in the air on Sunday as the 1100R kicked off Sunday's program.
Derek Gesler and Brianna Johnson took off like rabbits and were way out front in the first heat. Terry Klemm was hampered by the motor loading up,but seemed to have it back on track and began to pass the other drivers, only to load it up again to finish 5th and this was pivotal.
Terry changed props and went out and won the next two heats, but that first heat problem hurt his chances. Derek and Brianna were flawless on the water, and you cannot ask for better folks. Derek was very emotional in his comments of thanks to Rex Hall, who put the GRM back together the week before, and to his Dad, Brad, that is what makes Derek special to us who know him.

125h came up next and it was not kind to Kevin Ellison the defending champ as his motor continued to load up and was not a factor this year. Dominic just back from Italy worlds in 125' borrowed a boat from Craig Dewald and put the hurt on the field. We started with 19 125's and was a real donnybrook to get to 12. Brian Palmquist and Amy Nydahl won heats and this set up a great 3rd heat, with Dominic taking it.
14 250H hit the water with heat 1a going off with no issues for the seven entries. 2a, not so much, as only 2 boats finished. Michael W Schmidt(I call him the Younger), made up for the heartbrake from last year after having won the first heat was pitched out in the bottom corner in the next heat. He clearly was fast last year and this, and it all came together with two firsts and a second.
Chris Hellsten won two heats as well, but did not finish one of the heats. David Mitchell put the wounded F-6, Asian Carp took the right sponson and deck out yesterday while he won the 350H championship, on the podium for third

350R came up next with a wild finish as the top 3 boats, Mike Krier, Tim Small, and Brian Payne were within 25 points of one another. Tim broke out of the pack at the get go and took it home for the win.

The Top Hydros were up next with 10 boats on the water. Robbie and Debra Elderege Galletta from Verticle Rehab put up a wonderful purse in addition to the Men's Club prizes. 3k to the winner, 2k for 2nd, and 1k for 3rd.
Doug Hall had the bit in his mouth and was out to shut the field down with his Rex Hall prepared GRM. In the second heat Doug was in 4th place going to the 1st turn on the final lap. Doug put his throttle foot through the firewall and passed the three boats in front to put his stamp on this class.
In the 3rd heat Doug started way back as he needed only a reasonable finish and jumping the gun was not going to get in the way, thus he claimed the 3k for the win to go along with the 700h title from yesterday.
Mark Gryskiewicz had a great weekend as he finished well in the capsule classes during the weekend. Brother Jared, who headed home to his beautiful Courtney to await the imminent birth of his daughter and did not run the 350R, but won the 500R also gave Poppa Pete a wonderful weekend
Jim Kirts had a great weekend as well with Jim taking the win in the third heat to take the third overall.

A wonderful Nationals with a wonderful sponsor(I admit bias), the Depue Men's Club with the US Title Series running the show on the water, were flawless. My thanks to Mayor Eric Bryant, Steve Solario, Todd Brinkman, Fred Schletty(sp?), big Paul Bosnich, and Sue Sailer and her crew.
Do not forget that Pat Gleason did a great thing for the Pro Division by streaming. Shirley Summers ran the chat room, and Grant Bosnich, Dave Beazley and Baylee Burkland ran the camera Have heard good reports on this and Pat will archive later this month for us to enjoy again.
