Another great day of racing for the Title Series and Joe and his American Legion crew know how to be great hosts. This was the 55th year straight for the Pro category to race on the St. Joe River and we have surely enjoyed time we have spent.
11 250H started the first race of the day and what a wild event this was, as Chris Hellsten and David Mitchell traded heat wins to set up a great 3rd heat. As they came up for the start, they were pushing the clock and Mitchell and Hellsten were right there. Chris's 250 stuck a piston just before he got to the line and I was worried as 7 or 8 boats had to try and miss him, which they did. Brandon Thirlby went on to score a victory to go with a fourth and GJ to finish 3rd behind Mitchell who got the 2nd in that heat to have a 1,2 3 heat configuration.

12 350R headed to the first turn in the first heat with Mike Krier taking the first spot, as leading was not the way to go. Tim Small and Rich Krier each took a turn at the front in the first heat, only to have something go wrong. Rich never made it back to the water, but Tim had strong showings in the other two heats.
Brian Payn never made it out in the first heat, but came back and took heats 2 and 3 to finish just behind Mike Krier who toll home the win. Jay Anderson continued with a nice weeked to finish 3rd

3 1100Rs never got off the ground as Dwight Malhiot, Amy Nydahl went dead in the first turn and Greg Keller and Ike Yoder just after crossing the starting line. Mike Thirlby at the point with Son Preston riding with came on in. Way to look good Preston, loved having the opportunity to announce your riding with Dad.
125R came up next with 6 entries and lots of issues. Andrew Thirlby and Erin Barth collided in the bottom turn of heat 3 and Erin's boat took a full bath as it sunk. Neither driver was injured and Andrew has a little cosmetic damange.
Well when the dust settled Travis Ellison was the only boat able to run, and he was sitting 200 points behind Erin who had 600 points with two 2nd place finishes. Buddy Tennell had won the first heat, but something catastrophic occurred in the 2nd heat. While both Andrew and Erin Unable to run they sat and watched Travis run the final heat by himself, only to have Travis load up after the first lap and then finish up with an 8 minute heat. Travis did a great job in the 2nd heat to take the win and the 3rd heat gave him the title. This is Travis' second wind in a row with the Title Series as he took Hartford last Labor Day.

8 175H's answered the bell as we saw Buddy Tennell trade heat wins with Ralph Donald to be tied on time and having to go to the stop watches, and Buddy took it by 5 seconds over Ralph. Fun to have Kari Vihrealehto from Finland with us in the 175 as he is over visiting with Ralph and Ralph put him in one of his hydros. He and Brett Simmons were tied on points as well and it went to Brett, by 5 seconds as well.

Top Hydro
6 Top Hydros hit the water with Jim Kirts and that 25 year old Konig, which his Father Dan has singing carried Jim to another win in the 1100H category. Jim has that 1100 singing and is a real tribute to Nic Davis the former owner, who was fatally injured at Depue a number of years ago in an open cockpit hydro, cannot help but think Nic is smiling seeing that formerly blue and purple, now a beutiful combo of red, black and white setting the pace. Jim had to put this boat back together after ripping the right sponson completly off at Winona in a collision with another driver at our last race. Dan pointed to the Jim performed and stated, "you would never know the sponson was ever off this boat." Great job all around by Himmy.
Ike Yoder finshed second and Jim Wright had another outstanding day with a third overall after having won up at Hartford.
