    Sunday Hartford Results

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is going to be somewhat from memory as the Dufus lost the results. Sue if I get them wrong, hit me at Fl, but make sure we are close.

Many thanks need to be given to a whole host of folks, I know I will forget someone, but please forgive. First thanks to the Recapture folks. Charlie Meyer was everwhere and was of great help. Joe Marfuggi, the President was able to give us a great deal of info on what they are doing up there and the Title Series is greatful to have been a part of their plans for the riverfront. What a great event!

My thanks to Sue and her crew who all year have been urbelievably efficient and of great help to the drivers and to me. Todd, what can I say, except, "okay Ray let's getem going." And thank you for that!..... Paulie, Fred, Nic, how about this season, one of the best!

Alright, lets see where this goes.

    125R
In over 40 years as a driver, spectator, and announcer I thought I had seen it all, but as the saying goes, "You ain't seen nuttin yet." In the first heat Travis Ellison got a great start and was never headed for the 4 laps.

The second heat was a doozy. Travis broke before the one minute gun, Andrew Thirlby was having trouble and stopped, Paulie Bosnich blew the bottom of V-99 out and with one more lap to go David Jones, driving the David Tenny entry stopped just past the finish line, unfortunately for him, it was on lap 3, so we had no finishers in the 2nd heat.

David and Andrew answered the call in third heat, only to have Andrew with trouble again, and David was able to finish this time, with just the two boats able to go.

Travis though won it on time for his first win in the 125R class.

    Travis
    David
    Paulie

    250H
8 boats started the heats with lots of pushing and shoving, but great racing. Michael W. Schmidt(the younger as I call him), after a spectacular flip on Saturday came and played it out to the end with a win.
Brad Barth has not been able to make all of our races this year, but boy did he leave us with something to think about, he scored victories in the 2nd and 3rd heat, but got trapped in the back at the start and finished with a 4th, which allowd Michael to eek out a well deserved win.

Scary incident as Ben Thompson stopped in the bottom turn with a whole host of boats headed down the bacstretch. Ben standing in the boat with arms up, saw boats going inside and outside with spray hiding Ben from JP Jedwabny. JP was able to see him at the last minute took evasive action, but clipped Ben's boat as Ben took the ole dive off the ship. All were okay and I know JP was pretty heavy hearted, but he did what he could to avoid Ben and all ended well. Ben says he is going to have to put the 4th sideboard on the boat since he and Nic finished it last winter.

    Michael W. Schmidt NAC
    Brad Barth
    Chris Hellesten

    350R
Well Jay Anderson is one to never give up as he had a heated battle with Jared Gryskiewicz in the 500R, turned around Sunday and was in the battle for the 350R NAC crown, as he battled Mark Stahl,Tim Small, Jared, and Brian Payn.

Jay won the first heat and Payn got a bad start in the 1st heat and battled all the way to the end passing the 2nd place boat right at the end. Brian then went out and won the next two heats for the overall win.

    Brian
Mark Stahl apolgoize on the first go round
    Jay

    175H
Ralph is Ralph right? Well he not only won this years Nationals, he finished off this season Title Series race with another. We had nine 175H that started and it was a donny brook, with 3 gun jumpers all in the first three places in the first heat with Ralph hitting the starting line on the mark.

    Ralph
    Michael W. Schmidt
Diane Murray. (Diane's outfit is going to be for sale right after the Worlds.

    700H
Sean Mckean continued to show the speed that he has had all year. After a dismal Saturday Sean was at it Sunday for sure. He won 2 of the 3 heats, although out front in the second he ended up picking of the entry bouy in turn one and was DQ'd.

Jim Wright gave himself and early Birthday present, Jimmy's B-day is today, as he won overall in the 700, with Gary Buskirk driving a Thirlby Automotive entry finished 3rd. Jim has been running better and better at each race and it all came together for him at Hartford.

You could not have asked for a better weekend of racing and acceptance by the crowd. Saturday's estimate was 7-8K and Sundays was double that.

The Town of East Hartford, and the City of Hartford's police and fire teams were outstanding. A quick meeting each day to go over events and responsibilities was held each morning and it went off like clock work. Tim and John if you read this, THANK YOU!

I will be posting the GRM/VRP winners of these events later this week.

    Ray
My thanks to Sue Sailer for the corrections
    BTW, HAPPY B-Day Jason

I haven't been to a race in Hartford in.... decades! What a difference in the park. Along with what we have come to expect with a USTS event, the local organization was tremenous! This was a very good race weekend... and after so many years of travelling all over the country to USTS races, this was a little over 1 hour from home! A special thanks to everyone involved in this race, it was a great race!

What a great event at Hartford, Conn. It has been 35 years since I raced there and what a change in the park. It was a tricky course, like a paper clip. Long straight away's and tight turns. This was a drivers race, not on speed. I want to thank all involved who put this race on. I believe the city of Hartford was pleased with the USTS and the competition. The two money was a plus for all that made the trip to race. I also want to congratulate Jim Wright on his 700 Hydro win. This was a long time coming and they put together three real good heats heats to secure the win under very best 700's in the world. The only negative thing I can say was that it was the same week as Lockhaven, Pa. I just hope if this comes off again next year it will not conflict. Once again, it was great racing........Bob N-96
