  • Mike Krier Update

Mike is home and doing well. After release from Spring Valley hospital he had an appt at University of Iowa Hospitals on the way home. We weren't sure if surgery or time would be the cure. Looks like we will try the time factor to heal his broken pelvis.
What a horrible looking accident in 250 Runabout. We are all just glad no one else was involved. Why the accident happened and why his boat blew and he went flying when he was so far out front is anyone's guess. I am guessing he may have hit one of the flying carp, but there are other theories too.
No matter, we are glad he is home. If anyone wants to call him shoot me an email and I will give you his number. With Mike, be prapaired to do the talking though.

I feel his pain...Literally. I broke my pelvis a couple of years ago getting bucked off a horse. They told me surgery wouldn't help, it healed in time.
The first few months it was hard to get around, but then got better quickly.
Doing things like lifting and twisting was difficult, but gradually got better. Now, exercise like swimming helps. Good luck Mike, and don't disregard the physical therapy.

      That corner

Thanks for the update on Mike , Connie. I dont know if you saw the sequence of pictures that Jeannie Tennell took of Mikes accident , it is scarey. I dont know how close Tim Small got to him when he was in the water , but I am sure to close for comfort. Hope Mike has a quick and full recovery!!!!!!

I dont know what it is about that southeast corner of the race course at DePue but it has claimed a lot of boats and taken away alot of national championships. I was talking to a driver on the water Sunday who was a turn judge and his thought was that with all the milling that goes on in that corner before the start that the water never really gets a chance to settle to down leaving the stray roller. That corner does get close to the shoreline. And being out on the water , that corner does seem a bit rougher than turn 1. Maybe some of the drivers could comment on this better than I.

          Mike Krier crash

I was on Mikes outside, maybe 20ft. behind when he crashed. He started to blow over but caught it at the last minute. The only problem was the boat came down sideways instead of straight and the tremendous pressure blew the boat apart. The side decks hit me in the chest as they came apart, and leterally jerked my hand off the wheel. I am thankful Mike will be ok, so we can have many more battles hopefully in the future. Connie, please send him my best, and tell him I will call him soon. Tim Small

Who was it that took the photo sequence of Kirts' accident? Billy Allen was running around with them and they were amazing. Any chance somebody could post them?

I am sure it will be hard for Mike to rest and take it easy but maybe Festus can wait on him. Connie-as for the talking during conversation, he never has any problem talking when we talk on the phone!!!

                        krier pictures

                        Ryan -

I think the pictures you are referring to are of Mike Kriers accident. There is a series of 9 pictures and they are very scarey.

                          Well wishes

Connie, please tell Back off, oops I mean Mike, to have a speedy recovery and we are thinking of him. Hopefully, he's back in shape by deer season to put a whoopin on some whitetails with his trusty smoke pole. Maybe his dog can run the combine to take care of the crops?

I spoke to Mike this week and he was feeling OK. He was very talkative and had a nice conversation. I told him there were pictures and he asked me what happened. I just said it was very scary to look at them and didn't go into detail about them.

Spoke to Tom this week also he is also doing OK. He said his arm is still numb and he said he is getting a little bit more control of it. He said he will go to the Dr. to see what is going on. He sounded good and he went to work on Monday.
