Last night I received a called from my old and dear friend Clyde Queen. It was great to hear his voice again. Before U S Title Series there was a number of strong local clubs, one being Outboard Club of Chicago. The club had been re-erected from its previous glory days by Char and Clyde Queen. It was a wonderful time to race in the late 60’s thru 80’s and Outboard Club of Chicago was in the middle of all the action. Many Saturday nights club meeting where spent at the Queen’s Morton Grove home. It was good times for all!
Char died in August of this year after a long drawn-out fight with cancer, she fought to the end. Anyone knowing Char knows how hard she must have fought to keep away from the grim reaper.
As members of the Chicago Gang, my wife and I have fond memories of the times with the Queens.
Clyde has been away from Pro Racing for a number of years, but he is still busy. He has taken up with building radio-control model airplanes, planes that are in the range of 11 to 12 feet long!! He is starting a new one that will have a 5 cylinders, 125cc engine.
