Dayton USTS Race
I do not have results, as the race site was well west of the pit area and it was hard to tell who won some heats. With the strong breeze, the PA was difficult to hear also.
Thanks to all the unselfish volunteers that took time to move the race course (twice) and who braved the deteriorating weather to breakdown the course, judges' stand and the safety boats. Rich Krier deserves credit for motivating everyone to make an extra effort to get the races on the water Sunday. I wish Rich had been rewarded with a better outcome to his day.
The winds that Ike ushered into the area were terrible. My drive from Dayton to an hour past Cincy was borderline terrifying. I dodged a porta pot, a ladder, many limbs (except one that hit the SUV and trailer leaving the park) and saw a damaged rear quarter panel completely pulled off a car ahead of me. I know that many campers and "big rigs" were forced quickly off the road, as the 60-70mph gusts pushed them all over the road.
I hope that all managed to get home safely.
Mother nature certainly gave us a tough time this season. We may need to hold some peagan ritual going into the 2009 in order to get on her good side!!!
Welcome and congratulations to AJ Jennings who drove the Augustine's 125 and 250 hydro's. AJ and Alex are a classs act and it was a pleasure to have them join us for the weekend. AJ does not say much, but the grin on face after the 250 / 350 combo said enough!
Everyone please keep Marty Stahl in your thoughts today, as he is having a little surgery to hopefully relieve troublesome back pain.
More later.
