This Sunday night, many of us will need to head west from Constantine to DePue. Any advice or observations regarding routes thru or around the Chicago area?

    Thanks,

      David:

I will have some sort of idea about the road conditions oncew I get to Constantine. I go right through Chicago after leaving Pete's house.

        Chicago

Right now the area from around I-65 is torn up a little, but the contruction on I-80 is finished and you have 4-6 lanes from there through into Illinois. i was just there last week.

Everything has been really good lately. Most of the construction that has gone on for the past few years is finally paying off.

Hungry going through my old home town?

Most of the time, we always took the Indiana Skyway and paid the fees to cross, because it was faster than going through the old steel mill district around the horn of the lake. Chicago on it's worst traffic day, is 4 times faster than California freeways ever dreamed of being.

If you're going through the city, actually, near Elmwood Park, 4 blocks west of Harlem (7200 west) on North Avenue (1600 North) is a little Italian Beef stand called Johnnies. Johnnies beef and sausage combos are better than any food you will ever eat, and on 30° below weather, the line wraps 3 times around his building, and he moves you through quick!. For dessert, hit Al Gelato a block down the way, the dude makes ice cream that tastes exactly like what he says it is. Amazing stuff.

Want BBQ? Russell's is at North Ave and River Road about 16 blocks west of Harlem. Best BBQ ribs and or chicken in the us, is a known gangster hang out, and been in business since 1919.

I don't know how far Constantine is from New Buffalo, but you got Red Max there, known for it's world renowned burgers.

Have a great time all, next year, we will be there!

North, Damen and Milwaukee is Byron's under the L track, unless the hood has changed. That was once one of the last hold outs for the Italian American patch, but it was turning pretty Puerta Rican and probably is still going that way. The Italians have been migrating to the western burbs for years now.

By the time you get outta the pits in Constantine on Sunday Afternoon / Evening .. Everything will be moving along just fine on 80/94 or the Indiana Toll Road as well.

Just put your visor down and ram right through on I80 Westbound. No need to go out of the way these days as construction is nearing completion.

You'll be fine going through the IN / IL Stateline area on Sunday eve.
