I am getting ready to order a bunch of balsa core sheet and will order extra if anyone else would like some.
It is 1/2" finsished thickness with 10 oz. random orientation glass mat and a thin mahogany veneer on each face. The panels are 4' x 8', but I can get 5' x 10' as well. You can scarf it and use it just like plywood. The benefits are that it is stiffer than 3/4" plywood while weighing the same as 1/4" (6mm) plywood. This means you can build boats lighter and stiffer. If nothing else, it is the ideal cockpit side material to use for the new UIM guidlines.
The cost for 4 x 8 is $180
The cost for 5 x 10 is $335
As for the appearance, it is pretty comparable to Okumee for looks. This is what Eric VanOver's hydro is made of for those of you who have seen it with its natural finish
If anyone has any interest, please let me know by August 17th. It will take 6-8 weeks for delivery. I am in Indianapolis and will do all I can to help guys out, but I won't ship the stuff. You can pick it up here or we can try to figure out transport to a race somewhere.
