  • Source for Pro Motor Shaft Prop Nuts?

I have been looking for a new source for the deeper-depth, M14 x 1.5mm steel nylock nuts with the cadmium (not zinc) plating (#8-hardened) for my Pro foot shafts. Seems they are getting harder to find on the Internet and at my local specialty fastener store (most suppliers only sell smaller nylocks up to M12 size, or they sell M14 x 2mm nuts that I assume are being used for assembling parts for sports car auto racing.)

I already have purchased some shallow-depth, zinc-coated nuts but they are really cheaply made and I don't trust them with a $440 Dewald prop!

Where are you folks out there buying M14 x 1.5 prop nuts from?

I want to buy them in quantities of 50 units or less.

My first thought is to ask Steve Litzell.

      Fastener Supplier Source Requested

David - I am sure the US Pro motor suppliers (Litzell, Hall, McKean, Montoya, etc.) have OEM and aftermarket prop nuts at higher prices per unit than a fastener specialty house would charge me (they have to make their mark-up to stay in the biz.) I am looking for a US or EUro specialty fastener supplier source that is a little higher up on the fastener supply chain when buying in quantities of 50 each. Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion, though.

Al I just ordered some from McMaster Carr. I was also looking for the D prop nut a 9/16 x 12 but they don't carry them anymore. Does anybody know of a good source for these.

Larry, Sid provided a really nice 9/16X12 nut with my Bass lower unit. I'd bet he could tell ya where he gets them. Heck, I should buy a few spares myself.

              Thanks a Bunch

              Larry,

Thanks for providing the McMaster-Carr hardware source. It looks as if they have a lot more than nylocks that I will be interested in looking at!

I will also talk to Sid (since he lives so close to me out here in Washington State.) I should have thought of Sid & Neal Bass before I asked the question, but the obvious is sometimes the hardest to remember...

              Best Regards,
              Al Peffley

We need more people that think like you do Steve.
