  • Hydro Mirrors

Anyone use them and would you share any knowledge about?
Pegasus Racing has several models that would work but they are a bit pricey
    189.00 ea.
    Big mirrors better? convex?
I'll most likely chop you anyway, but I'd like as much awareness as possible as to whats around me on the course.
    Thanks

Having raced with mirrors on tunnel boats, I can say that similar mirrors would be absolutely useless on kneel-down boats. In the tunnel, you were strapped in a single place and generally could only move your head a limited amount. Even then, mirror adjustment was crucial. In a hydro, you just have too much movement for those types of mirrors to be useful.

Its an idea that sounds reasonable until you actually try it.

      Mirrors

I'm with Sam on this... I had one on the left side on my first A&H DSH hydro, a neat little Talbot Jr. with a convex lens. Thought I could stay hunkered down better and still check the inside. Looked neat, or so I thought at the time. It was a useless ornament. Came off when I repainted the boat.

Just use that swivel thing that holds your head on...

            Adequate head movement

I have had the same operating experience with a blue-tinted, baby turbo mirror (Italian mirror). I had setup problems in mirror adjustment angles (what looks good on the beach never looks good in the first turn ). I put one on my CSH rig and always had problems with the right mirror angle since I move around so much in the boat (especially in cornering). It has mostly been a hull ornament thst I pay little attention to during most races... Jon Steen used a turbo model on the port side of the cockpit on his winning DSH hull with some success, but I could never get the same visibility results in OSY or CSH. I have never tried one on my pro hydros, but have considered installing one since the 250ccH laydown rides much smoother than the CSH and my Security neck brace and helmet restraint harness straps restrict wide head movement. I would buy a tinted mirror lens that is more convex to reduce angle adjustment setups if there is a "next time."
