CSH 3/4 inch height rule

    This isn't necessarily the case. In ASH the gearfoot is much different, and run at 1-3/8", that is why it is dangerous. Also guys in A were running upwards of 2" of tuck. With the horsepower that a C has, that much tuck would be ridiculous, and with the more club style foot, I don't think that it would react the same way that the A foot does. I really don't see a situation like we had in A coming up in C.

    We will both be at Moses Lake, look forward to meeting you, and drinking your beer!

          Al,

          As I don't see your response to my posting, this is what I must say. This is the way stock has been for the 18 consecutive years I have already raced. Many (me included at times) don't like the changes that are made. Many do like them. As with anything, you can't please everyone. Stock is meant to be fun local excitement with a few big races thrown in for flavor. As I see some laydown piped hydro in your avatar, I don't believe you are (anymore) very privy to what we really are about. I know you guys must love to travel across the country five weekends a year and that is fine. Most of us stock guys and gals prefer to stay somewhat more local. Less you misunderstand that I don't have the drive, I fly from Virginia Beach, VA to southern WI almost every weekend in the summer. I then team up with my father and drive another 6-8 hours to race. Don't forget the drive back and the flight home to be at work on tuesday by 4:45am. I may not spend as much as you, but I do understand the drive to compete.

          Please understand that I am not dissing the PRO category, I am merely saying that what we do is a little different. We kind of like it that way. Maybe our commission is not doing what we all want, but we love this stuff anyway. I may not be happy with everything, but I know that as fellow racers, these people have the best of intentions in their hearts. Go race OSY against the people whose size dictates they should be racing AXSH... That kind of racing is NOT for me. I prefer a little more fairness, even if it means I have to do a little homework.

          P.S. I know I am about to be lit up, but please understand I am just trying to get across what I and hopefully we want to be about. Bickering is fine and is normal, but it sucks and all we really want to do is race, have some cocktails and talk about racing.

                Ok, so I have only been racing for 13 years instead of 19. You are my senior in experience if you ran C-Stock all of those 19 years. Just because I have a pro boat avitar on this website does not make me ignorant on my CSH setups over the 10 years I raced CSH, whether I ran my CSH hydro in a pro or stock class (the only difference is the weight limit.) I started racing CSH in 1993 as a rookie at the over-weight age of 48 (late bloomer). I stopped racing CSH three years ago because I wanted to focus more on my 250ccH pro hydro gear. I just read your response, so this is my response: not every boat design is forgiving to extreme tuck or height adjustments (up or down); I ran my 102 lower than most CSH class racers on a long course because my CSH is so short and has a flat tunnel (it does not stay very stable in real rough water.) I did not do that because someone made me do it.

                That said, an adjustment to steering cables on my hydro would be required (with a 15-degree angle on my transom) to keep my cables tight because I've run it at many motor height levels. Just because your boat has different characteristics does not mean others will not have a hassle in changing setups (because now each SO and OSY class has a different height.) You may not like to run OSY, 20SSH, and CSH at the same sanction, but a lot of other racers here in Region 10 do -- don't criticize them through me because local APBA clubs promote racers running multiple classes to make more money at races!

                Frankly, I don't see the fact that you drive or fly 10 miles or 2,000 miles to a race has anything to do with these parity rules discussions, racing setup safety, or disimilar boat setups that are real issues to many boat racers.

                Our race schedules out here are already too long, mostly because of SO people trying to jocky the schedule so that they can re-setup boats in between heats for CSH, 20SSH, ASH/JSH variants, and OSY. Maybe you have a bigger pit crew than many of us here, or only choose to run one of those classes. When I race CSH I try to focus only on it and not those other classes or my pro boat; but the setup change issue still affects me too with the overall schedule delays and potential safety/inspection issues. I wish you guys felt as strong about older hulls that are unsafe, loose cables, and bad turn fin setups as you do about motor parity... Have a nice Easter with your family.

                  Run CSH Again?

                  Pat,

                  Several years ago (maybe four years?) we had a APBA CSH Divisional at Lake Cullaby. I kept my cool, watched the younger lead California guy roll his boat in the last turn, and placed in the top three CSH finishes for the weekend (second or third, I can't remember.) Regionally, I had some really good years in the late 90's in CSH and OSY (multiple first's), but have never went to the APBA Stock Nats (due to the reported event's crazy politics in CSH and DSH, and its CSH accident/blowover record.) It's funny how people don't even notice your class participation in your own region... My early regional/national OSY achievements (never high points, but good finish placements for a few years) were more noticeable than my CSH participation.

                  I would consider racing again in APBA CSH if I felt the class became more consistent with membership voting rights and rules on technical/safety subjects (LESS of the liberal-minded, "technical" rules that have no safety issue merit -- I like Ron's "KISS" method.) I don't want to buy a new motor -- I like my 102, even though it's getting a little old like me. This makes me a problem with some Y302 owners back east, I guess. I have never heard a SOA or CORA guy or gal complain about parity. Unsafe driving in CSH (cut & hack) or OSY (cockpit-to-cockpit rule) is another issue I don't like, but can live with as long as the the turn judges have enough guts to call the infractions (God bless ya, Roy!) I can stick 102 pistons with the best of them (at least four in the 1994 season!) My other 102 has been blue-printed and converted to a C-mod by the "Master" (it can't be changed back.)

                  No, I will not race CSH or OSY (I don't feel "welcome" in OSY outside of local SOA, AOF, California club, or CORA races) in APBA or USTS (my Depue race point results counted in APBA/SOA in past years.) I will not race APBA again until this stupid "parity" thing, the predjudice about OSY goes away (I agree we should adopt UIM OSY rules,) and my knees get in better health (I had a second serious knee injury to my right knee at Brewster the last year SOA raced there.)

                  I run laydown hydros most of the time now because my lower back and knees won't take the pounding any more from a ten to twelve boat field wake buildup after the first lap on a typical short course, small lake race site.

                  Also, to keep up with Wart, young Nielson(s), and J Michael, I would need to beg for a new boat from Tom, and that is not in the budget right now...as much as I would like to own one of Tom's excellent boats (see recent race photo in Florida of Daren "flying" in Wart's hydro -- a little too loose as it turned out, but awesome air!)
