  • Old Quincy Merc

Need advice: Have an old Quincy prepared Merc, been in barn for some 35 years. Last time I ran it I took on water thru carbs and cracked a head. A guy welded it, but distorted the inside. He then milled around pads but got toodeep in one of the 4 cylinders. I'm in southeast Ga. and know of nobody who works on these. Since Quincy Welding no longer exists, is there some responsible person who could repair this block back to Quincy specs? I found a "newer" block which I think is a Merc 50 that has pads cast in it from the factory. But it's a 29/16 bore and mine is a 2 7/16 bore. Can I get bigger pistons to fit Quincy rods and use this "newer block with Quincy crank and front engine half without pistons striking heads or am I just totally off completely? Probably "off in the head" as I've farmed too many years and inhaled too much herbicide. Just want to crank her again and play in the Savannah River and hear the ole staker. Thanks for any info!! Wm.
