1996 merc 150 hp not pumping?

hi everyone,

gotta question. I am looking at a 96 bass boat with a 150 merc on the back. looked at it last night but it was not sending any water out of the pee hole. we put the ear muffs on and ran water in it but nothing was coming out. when the engine was stopped the water was pouring out around the ear muffs but when started the earmuffs were sucked in and created a good seal. we even disconnected the hose going the hole and no water was pumping up, but it was blowing air out of the t connection. we cut the engine off after about 30 sec. should we be getting water out right away?

Hey Frank- On that engine, you won't see any water coming out of the tell take until the thermostats open up. If you run it long enough for it to get hot, grab a 7/16 and remove the thermostat housings to make sure they aren't stuck.

Hey Frank, another thing to check on is back it in the water and check it,sometimes a water hose won't give out enough water pressure to make it pee properly. Also check for mud or debris in tell tale hose it could be plugged. Take care jimmy

thanks guys for the help. she is peeing like a race horse. hope to get it on the water after Wilson. it's a 96 18' procraft bass boat. bonding time with my son in law and son.
