  • OMC engine cowl painted?

I cant find in the APBA inspeciton manual where the engine has to look factory or be painted factory colors.... does that still apply? Or is custom painting legal now?

How about that. Amazing, a rule is deleted and there is no record of the change being brought up and passed. Maybe I missed something or it was possibly left out during a rewrite?

We have a brand new racer who showed up with an OMC on his ASR custom painted to match his boat... it looks cool. But I always thought that was illegal, but when I went to help him out and look it up, I can't find where it says you can't do that...? So maybe he did right...? That would certainly make him happy, and many others likely.

It has been legal to paint an OMC A cowling for several years. You may want to check with Jeff if you are still uncertain. I was on the SORC the year it was voted on. OMC A Motors can be painted any color in both Mod and Stock.

Out of curiosity, and not to start any sort of discussion over rules (old or new), why was it illegal to paint the engine cowling?
