  • B Mod engines

Can someone steer us toward the best OMC fishing power head to use as the basis for a B mod engine?

And, without giving away major secrets, a reasonable approach to modification, part interchanges and lower unit preferences.

    Thanks very much!!

the legal OMCs are the 1970 to 1976 22 c.i. 25 HP powerhead.
gearcases are anything allowed in A B or 25 MOD.

let me know if you know somebody with pistons for that powerhead. I could use them.

        forgot this-
you can't use a Yamato 80 gearcase. even though it's a B-mod engine, it has its own set of rules. I asked Jeff W about that, so that's the answer.

          GO YAMATO!

If you want to go for a ride use a OMC, but if you want to be competative you might want to look into a Yamato 80 and do a few modifications. The OMC's are a cheaper way in but they dont crank up as well.

            OMC Pistons ( B Mod )

Tom Moulder has a supply of new 22in3, OMC pistons in both standard bore and .030" over. Used/good pistons should be east to find. Let me know if you need more help.

                Craig / Brian,

If still interested in this motor (this is an old thread), Give Rick Morris a call at 405-672-2251.

He builds mine and "DOC" Millers 25/ B-MOD OMC's. Doc won the second heat of B-MOD and took second overall---Nationals 2004. (I was busy going back to pick-up missed bouys)

Look for the powerheads with external coils bolted to the side of head.

Rick can cut the flywheel and perform other internal "magic" or may lend you his recipy (spell check!! )

He should also have pistons avail. --Also I hear their avail in the Cearra catalog and maybe NAPA.
