Howdy from Montgomery Texas. This is my first post at this place. I don't race nor have I ever raced boats but I do like outboards. I figured this would be the place to show a project I have going at this time. I like the looks of the 45sst motors run on the tunnel hulls and I have a 35 johnson in the shop. I figured I build a "35sst".

Step one...buy a cool looking racing gearcase....in this case yamato 302

I didn't like the rubber mounting of the mid-section so I decided to make a hard mount setup....Stripped engine. Take mid housing and flip it over on wife's copy machine and take picture... Glue copy down to plate aluminum and cut it out. I put the "steering pin" and exhaust housing as close together as I could.

It didn't come out too bad. I test fit it on both the engine the exhaust housing...good clearance..no issues..

Now I need to do something with the lower section...How about weld some alum. blocks in place and drill/tap a bolt in place...

Wait for the wife to leave so I can put my junk on the copy machine again, Be quick with the gearcase as it is spilling oil as it copies...

Lay your waterpump plate in place on the copy and it will tell you where shaft center is. Make pattern of yamato foot and match up drive shaft hole..

Here is what you end up with....I'll shape it better one day but I'm too lazy right now.

The tower is looking too long at this point and not very race like so I gave it a chop job...

Here is a pic of the mock up....it is starting to look more like what I had in mind. Still much work to do...Have an order in with RPM to try and get some yamato parts so I can work on the drive shaft, water pump, etc, etc...more to come

A different project for sure, but, quite interesting! I especially like your use of the copying machine to make your patterns.

AWESOME ! I love it when someone does not see limitations and simply creates. I also like your use of the copy machine..... hmmmm. I might steal that one. Be quick and easy for some of the fits that are not as crtical as internal components. Thanks for sharing, keep posting on your progress and maybe some results when you run it !

I like it! Real ingenuity! Will you end up with a water pump or are you going to use "prop wash cooling"?
