  • What kind of paint?

Just got a B hydro in late December had to patch a hole in the chine. Got that patched and am going to repaint it and I am not sure how to go about starting. What kind of paint and primer work best. any help would be appreciated.

I use "Petit" brand paint called epoxease. I apply it with a 3/16 foam roller and smooth it out with a foam brush. As it dries, it will further smooth itself out. Apply two to three thin coats and your ready. Now, if the wood is bare, you'll want to apply some epoxy first to seal the wood, sand smooth then paint. That how I do it and its easy.

      If Petit Epoxese . . .

is like Petit Hobbypoxy, I had great luck heating the pot with a light bulb under a large vented coffeecan. Warm epoxy paint flowed out smooth but then cooled and didn't run or sag, perfect mirror gloss finish.

Works wioth varnish too - and many car painters are used "hot pots" now rather than thinning the paint.

        Dupont

I use Dupont Automotive paint. Sprayed like in a bodyshop. I think Chromo One is one type of Dupont used. Your local body shop should be able to hook you up with a compatible primer to go with it, along with clear coat for the final mirror gloss finish.

          Paint choices

I personally use automotive acrylic enamel with hardener on my boats. I guess the reason here is I'm not too thrilled about the scarcity of color choices in most marine paints. The marine paints might be the most cost effective though, especially if you cannot spray the boat yourself which is an absolute with the automotive enamels. I do not use clear coat because it makes repair of the paint much more difficult when you get the nicks and dings and scrapes that all race equipment gets. In any event, the paint job is probably only good for 3-5 years anyway, unless you leave the boat on the trailer and don't use it. The prettier you make them the worse you feel when you break them.

Easypoxy, brushes on great and looks like gelcoat in 2-3-coats, colors are limited though.
