The stock outboard inspection manual states OMC (Jonnson JKT/Evinrude EKT) 1986 or later. But In the Merc page it said In general the engine shall match Tech Manual for J and AXS which are published in the APBA rule book. Which I can not find on there website. Maybe I just missed it.
Mark G-11 125H When the green flag drops, the bull**** stops!!!!!!!!!!! Keep'em Sunny Side Up Boy's!
In general OMC motors suitable for A are 1986-1992 models.
Merc motors are 1999 and newer models.
Both those are groups of acceptable 15 hp powerheads. Parts from other model years or hosepower ratings be usable but there will be some differences in the total powerhead assembly such as carburetor, exhaust pipe, ignition, flywheel, etc.
OK now I am confused. Boy, All I want to do is try and come up with a legal motor. I know a local guy that has a good supply of used 15 OMC's. I'll have him check the block #'s for me. As for the gearcases. I take it the stock OMC gearcase is used on the OMC's. For the Merc's a racing gear case purchased from Ron at Racing Outboards LLC (per the APBA web) is the only legal gearcase? Not the stock one?
