    44XS foot

Looking at the photos it appears the gears are a must. The prop shaft, bearings and all cone and water pump parts should also be replaced including the impeller. The only question I have relates to the seal area on the drive shaft. If that is worn then that also should be replaced. Good luck hetting the unit back to working correctly. It might be a good idea to consider sending the case and parts to the US and getting it repaied and shimed correctly.

All our port work is done by Doug Kay in Roseville Mi. His number is 586-212-5917. I can post some photos if you like.

Glenno, considering the cost of repair, you may want to consider a different Lower unit altogether. The one you have was designed in the 1950's with only minor changes through the years. I think Mercury stopped making them over 20 years ago. A Yamato 302 lower unit would be much more available, newer, and cheaper.

I am in need of the back seal (closest to the prop I just spun which tore the seal up) for the cone on my 44xs gear foot. I looked on outboard paradise but could not find it under gear foot parts. It may be a common seal /part to other motors... Not sure. Anybody know where I can get this seal ring, part number, etc? Thx
