  • 25XS Transom Height

What is the transom height for a 25XS? I have a hydro that I want to run a 25XS on. It that has a transom height of 14 1/2" that is measured down the transom on the angle from top of transom to bottom of boat. What is the height I need to run this motor.

My transom is 12.5 on my Bezoats.

      transom hgt

Transom hgt is related to transom angle. The way to be correct is to measure the transom hgt such that you meet a theoretical extension of the bottom (not the tunnel bottom if there is one) at 90 degrees. Then relate that to the dimension on the engine from the inside rear of the transom clamp bracket to the center of the prop shaft at 90 degrees. From there you decide what transom hgt needed to allow for shims to fine tune the hgt with engine in place.

        in other words

take a carpenter's square and measure from the lowest surface of the bottom

that gives the boat transom hgt, then need the engine measurement

              app

Don't know but even if there was one it would be difficult to use directly on the transom.

                25XS Transom Height

You guys that run a 25XS, just give me a ball park figure and I'll do the rest. It's a Sorenson hydro with the Std. transom angle.

I ran 25XS & gave you my transom height

                    25XS Transom Height

Yes you did, but I just wanted to see if there was a variation in this dimension. Another person told me 12", you said 12.5", so 12.25" would be a happy medium. I would like a few more measurements before I cut it. Thank you for your reply.

Don't know that there is a standard angle. A carpenter square, meaning a frame square that is 16" one way & 24" the other so its big enough to do the job is what's intended. [There most likely is an app.] Then look at your clamp depth & determine how much you could shim up without compromising grip. Take an informed guess at where, & go.
Your specific is prop shaft depth in relation to true bottom, If you set the motor on, clamp it & measure that you can decide how much vertical you need. If you go with a given # that's ok as long as the transom angles are close. Some boats differ in angle to place the prop farther from or closer to the boat, can make a difference. There's a race minimum depth but that can depend on all other things.. boat, prop, conditions, race or play, etc. & on... best to be slightly short so you can adjust to them. Good Luck

wow - glad this post is properly clasified in the technical section - pretty technical answers.

I took a tape measure and measured the transom on my runabout - 12" then I held the bottom out in mid air at the bottom mimicking a carpenters square and approximating a 90 degree angle ...... approx 12" - just a little over - wasn't sure if I had to mesure to the back or front edge of teh transom ... or get out my carpenters square and or compass and protractor

... in all seriousness - the runabout has a steep (maybe 80 / 85 ish degree) transom wasn't much difference to account for

Keep in mind (I think I used no shims) and this is set up for the runabout deep min depth may want to add a little on a hydro especially if not so steep angle

                          .. hope that helps
