  • Question for "new" 25XS engine builders. Re: steering

I have an older style 25XS with two piece lower cowling pan and have converted it to a one piece aluminum lower pan. The aluminum lower pan contacts the transom clamps (too low?) when steering left & right and I'm wondering if I need to cut out the lower pan to clear the transom clamps..?

    Thanks,

    Tom

The one piece lowers all hit when turned hard in either direction, especially with shallower transom angles. Don't worry about it, if you have the wheel cranked that far on the race course, you have bigger problems to worry about. You might need to trim the front bottom of the cowl to clearance the top front of the adaptor plate depending on the year of the lower cowl.

      Thanks Doug!

      Doug,

I really appreciate your quick reply... We are sitting on a rehab project waiting for this reply. Yes we did open up the lower pan a little for the nose of the adapter. Will have (2) 25XS engines together with Mercasil blocks and 2000 model year clamps/cowls, new decals, Dave Scott's repro throttle brackets, 1 w/old tower/tuner, 1 w/new APBA tower/tuner, and both with newly machined (Alan Akerstrom) swivel brackets.

One of these engines is a rehab of an older, original 25XS, the other will be a completely "new" package.

Looking for a gearcase to complete one of the engines... Anyone wanna sell a 25XS gearcase? Complete OR empty housing will be considered.

      Tom
