  • Fuel Pump Questions

    Hello All,

    More questions, ...

Is putting a fuel pump on my Yamato 102 worth it? I'm not going to race it, and I know that the stock fuel tank holds what, ... 2 quarts (?) Just how long would the stock Yamato tank allow me to run at let's say 3/4 throttle?

    Regards
    Bill

Don't bother. One more thing that can fail. Stick with gravity.

About 4 miles? Maybe...but if you're not going to to race it no sense in Fuel Pump...there are oversized tanks available..get ya maybe 6 miles..but why 3/4 throttle?

Pretty sure Bill's not going to race it just a lake racer so he wants to stay out for longer then 10 minutes at a time.

BTM offers a fuel pump kit. You need to ask here about success of this kit.

Thanks for the input guy's, And thanks for the links Zul8ter.

So if I understand this right, .. I will need to drill and tap the block for a fitting?
lso, BTM site says that it comes wit "Great Instructions". I thought everyone's claim as just that, regardless if the claim is true or not.

Does anyone ave a copy of those "great instructions" that they can email or PM me? might be wise to see what I will be getting into if I decide that route.

My issue is with the stock tank, ... I could easily find myself stuck with no gas in the middle of the lake. If I have to carry a spare can of gas in the boat to avoid that, ... I might as well have just one tank that holds more gas delivered by a fuel pump.

I used a 3gal tank. Once a year for the long race up the river. I put the return line in were the fuel gage was. It's good for about 25 miles at wide open. WILD BILL

Perhaps WILD BILL or others can verify the following and send instructions? You could contact BTM and ask to see a copy of the instructions or maybe they will send you a pdf?

I never did install the BTM kit but if I did I needed to drill and tap the case in the upper or lower feed channel (can't recall which). The 102 and 302 supposedly have a flat spot on the case were to drill the Y80 does not. You will have to remove the carb and the reed plate and stuff a rag in the passage to catch the alum filings. Put grease on the drill to catch most. Drill a small hole first.

This install does not appear that difficult.
