  • Engine temp range?

Can I hear some typical CHT ranges for the following engines? Or any motors for that matter, likely all similar? Looking to buy a computer and told I have to select a temp range. I have no clue how hot these things get.

    OMC 15a
    Sidewinder 15S
    25XS
    Merc 20H
    Yamato 80
    Yamaha 50

    Thanks!

    A little info.

OMC temp at the plug is between 350-375 degrees
Hotrod temp at the plug is 210-240 degrees

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, that's great. I didn't realize they would vary so much...

      Anyone else with others?

My A Sidewinders right now are running at 180 still working on building more heat in them .

Andrew I have a MyChron 3 which is no longer avalible but the MyChron 4 is better anyway. You jusr need the basic one that measures RPM and Head temp. They read from 0 to 999 temp wise and you can download them into a PC with the software package.

            Tohatsu temp

Ran my Tohatsu at a record race last weekend in Moses Lake...temp was at 275 most of the time. Raised motor up a little and it went to dang near 400....shut the thing down and came in. Dave

Thanks for more temp input guys.

George, I've been thinking of getting the Trailtech Voyager... it doesn't record the quantity of info like the MyChron4, but does link the speed, tach, cht to the GPS location data on a map. And about half the cost of a mychron4 I believe. $250 or so with sensors.

Just the 20H and a Yamaha now... likely no one here using CHT on those. haha.

I also have the beacon for mine if I set it out it will measure lap times also, you down load those into the oval graf it will tell you how fast you are going around the course.

                        Yamaha 50 CHT

My Yamaha 50 CHT was 240. That was the temp at the spark plug on top cylinder during testing and competition using the Digitron model.

Not trying to de-rail your thread here.

But have you considered reading water temp instead of CHT?

Kind of hard to do water temp on a stock motor as your limited on where you can put the sender as there are no pipe plug outlets on most stock motors or they are in the wrong place. Being they are stock you cant drill and tap them where they need to be, just saying, same with exhaust temp on stock motors.

Thanks George. Being I'm not a stock guy, I was un aware that you couldn't drill and tap for a fitting in the head. That really sucks...
