  • Has anyone seen this before????

    Greetings from Ecuador!
It´s a late night doing engine work down here. I´m not any kind of a Yamato expert. So I have to ask if this is a normal looking driveshaft? Seriously! My friends have never seen a Yamato shaft twisted like this!

    HELP!

I've never seen one like that. Maybe Ric Montoya will see this and comment. Jack

I've twisted Konig drive shaft similar to what you have. Time for a new shaft.

As Bill mentioned, I have seen driveshafts twisted this way. It happend to me while running a "D" Konig some years ago and the lower unit locked up first, very shortly before causing the drive shaft to twist like the picture before the power head stopped because of the effort used to twist the shaft. Fortunately the twisted drive shaft saved the crank from winding up and a lot less expensive to fix.

If I were a betting man I would say the lower unit on this engine locked up first as described causing the power head stoppage, hopefully before any damage was done to it also.

A little investigation revealed that this engine struck a log in 2008. They replaced the lower unit and called it good. In fact, this driveshaft came from the engine I used for the big Marathon in 2011.
Mystery solved. Thanks everyone for the input. :-)

              $$$$$$

Hey Jeff, the Twizzlers licorice people ought to get on board with some sponsor dollars for you. All you have to do is paint it red or black.
