Where is the best area in a ASR or BSR to install a gas tank for running a marathon? Thanks Skip

    Best location?

I'm sure you can get 20 different answers to your question here on HR. Keeping that in mind take a collective overview of peoples suggestion and see what works out for your hull application. This was my sons set up in his "A" marathon that worked. I really didn't care for all the weight being on the left side of the hull but it didn't seem to bother him. Try not to get the tank or tanks to far back as it hinders planing time. If you can position them as to not affect the balance point of the hull as they empty it will help with consistant launch and landings as your wave jumping.

    Good Luck!

      Tank

In my C I run mine in front of the wheel. I know this is contrary to popular opinion but I know of two instances where I would have gone over if it had been further back. I almost stuffed it once on Mullet Lake so I guess it is 6 of one half dozen of another. I did blow my C over once when testing with a D Merc at a bit over 70. Don't want to ever do that again. It was a really smooth day but a Skidoo wake got me.

LMAO...............ain't that the truth Josh . I'm taking a cut bleach bottle for bailing this year. Skip eventhough I run CSR I have a 5 gall aluminum cylinder fuel tank mounted to the right side of the cockpit. As for mounting the tank to the boat I have 4 stainless screw type bands / clamps.

Try reaching out out to Gene Greenacre 3-M. He runs BSR and I'm sure would have some good advise for you.

          Good Luck !

Self bailers are important too. Save a lot of grief. That day on Mullet was brutal. My butt was black and blue a few days later from banging up and down on my heels. I also had a big scab where I banged against the transom clamps. What a day but I wouldn't trade that weekend for anything except calmer waters.

Had it mounted inside the boat against the transom. It was tapered so your feet can ride against it. Think it was about 5 gal. I still have the tank if any marathoners are interested. It is galvanized steel. Don't want much for it.....Bob N-96

Thanks for the responses to the marathon tank locations. Do you have to run the vent hose to avent fitting outside the hull when the tanks are mounted under the deck? Do the vents need a check to prevent loss of fuel if the boat is upside down? Thanks Skip

I'm sure there are varying opinions / answers to your question so here's my two cents. I run a simple 1/4" plastic fuel line as my vent with no check. I zip tie it to the motor clamp and call it a day. If the boat goes over the least of my worries is my fuel being contaminated......... just saying .

                  Sam,
