  • 2 Mag "Plugs"/102

Looking at a 102...seller sent pics and I noticed 2 Mag wires coming from Mag? Not sure why (and I'm NOT a "motor guy"). Can anyone give feedback on 1) Why? and 2) Should this be a concern regarding purchase..

    Thanks!!

    wires

If they look to be about 12 or 14 gauge -they are for kill switch or tach set up .

Roger, I wouldn't be concerned. Do you mean two wires coming out from each mag or two coming out of the housing? I don't understand the plug term. Do you mean connectors? Jack

I'm pretty sure you're describing the two wires that connect to the kill switch. One of the leads connect to the points and the other lead goes to ground. When the kill switch is pulled it grounds out the points and kills the motor.

In looking at these pictures it appears this motor was wired with a separate kill switch for both points. I can be rewired to have just one kill switch by combining the wires to both points and the other lead to the ground. Its really no concern about the quality of the motor. Just the way it was wired for the kill switch. Hope this answers your question.

Goller wires them this way, this is the set up I have on my 102. One is the kill switch, the other is for a tach.

Just strip off that ugly white paint from the tower. Those allum towers can polish nicely with a little elbow greese
