Let them all race and let the inspectors sort it out
If I have a agenda and some one is not GUIDED by my agenda
I will play the "IT IS TO EXPENSIVE AND COULD KILL THE CLASS" CARD.
If motor is not readily available locally I will fight it.
With all the different engines it is the most interesting.
RACING OUTBOARDS COST AT LEAST $5000 TO MAKE A NEW ONE or
Rebuild a 30yr old engine to make darn sure it doesn't break.
The notion that every one that does not run a used antique is hurting the class is ludicris, How much does 20 props cost along with a half dozen boats cost?
I am convinced boats and props are as or more important than hp.
Look at a 45sst rig 65 or so hp and they kiloed at 87mph.
I took three years and a lot more power than stock to go that fast.
I had the advantage of Mr Dewald frequenting local races and seeing us run and then say I know what prop you need next.
John Runne was great to work with driving a old heavy pro boat and still winning from behind. Also knew how the engine was doing by driving it.
That's all for now back to sleep.

Nope, Not Interested
Not at all interested Chenney. Not much else than can change, it is already a pro gas class. Precedent was set, it is what it is. How many boats were true 850CCH's at each race this year ???? Hmmmm. Enough said.Dave Mason

Cheney:
I would be happy to discuss the 850 class and any thing about it. It certainly is not dead and interest from others would be welcome. As for Dave M's question.... "How many boats were true 850's at each race this year?' the answer....all of them!

850 Engine choices
Mike
The short answer on your question is no. The OMC 49 Cube engines have been the popular choice because they are readily available for years and the later ones already make at least 70 HP without modification.
Also acceptable choices are the Merc 60 inch six cylinders and the 65 HP Merc 4 cylinder blocks.
The Tohatsu D engine, OMC 45ss. and Suzuki and Yamaha service engines are also usable.
Per the rules the engines used have to start as production motors. Also approved are Merc 44s with modified crankcases that use 4 carbs.
PeteDon't laugh.....it's borrowed!!

What do you think will happen when

as far as ignitons go,,, ihaverun konig style when set the record,,,, butthe crank shaft onthe v-rude actually flex's quite a bit,,,even with that big top bearing,, haveun merc 3 cyl distributor wit a belt also,,,, tomany expensive partsand some you cant buy forme on that one,,,, i luv running a starter now days and runthe late style omc ignition,,,, bolts up stock and can buyparts ,,, have to get a cd pack without rev limiter from cdi/rapair,,,around 100$,,,, but has a great warranty with it as all there parts,,,,,, and allt he stuff can be bought off of ebay or???... and runs if get hosed down in corners,,,,if ya want to runthe littlr bit older style ignition with the i think 2 sensors in a cup lookingtrigger i think you haveto run the power packwith screws inthem,,,not sure if there is a limiter there,,, ime sure someone else can chime in on that,,,,as for msd ignition,,,it is very very expensive,,,and have seen lots of motors burned down with it,,,,, ilike the stock later stuff cause it all sealed,,, also you have to run the right fly wheel with your style ignitions,,, as that the triggering/timeing mechanism,,,pritty simple really................... my whole premise for this is so people who might be interested in running v-rudes can see how simple they are and very cost affective they are,,, i can deff build one way cheeper then a d-mod these days,,,,,

as for rods irun the older smaller lite weight rods,,,,, lots and lots of racers say how they have broken/threw/lost rods especially with the older smaller ones i have never experianced that... but as my mercs i hone the rods both ends to make them round,,,, the mercs usually where about 1-1.5 thous,,, the rudes,,softer material i think,,,soo up to 3 thous,,,, cause they especially have a big bump where the cap and rod meet,,,,,,,, also there is a big misalignment in the front case and the block to be addressed,,, on the intake runners,,,,,

anthoney posted pics of the new boat in new boats,,,,, itis the biggest in mod outbords,, 14feet 42" wide 98" afterplane,,,it a karelsen,,, as for motors i know they at least 75hp hehehe,,, i dont have a dyno,,,, and i turn them in the 8k range.... i think it more important to match what you have with propellers,,,, i have won and set many a record doing that,,,, and of course have the best boat you can build or buy...the last 2 seasons was working with finger ported motors and moveing the intakes around and different pulse tune and bounce pipe config,,,, and reeds and material,,, that why i cam back in alot only 2 times on end of rope,,,, this season getting serious again,,,
