FinalLY got good enough weather to fire the 302 for the first time. it runs but the carb is dumping gas. fuel is leaking out the adjustment screw at the bottom of the carb and the plugs are wet. the float looks like it's working OK. does it just need a good cleaning, or a rebuild?

sounds like you have a piece of crud in the needle/seat assy. Take the fuel line off the bottom of the float assy and remove the two screws holding on the top. Take the float/needle Seat assy out and clean with carb cleaner and compressed air. May have to do it a couple times. You should be able to turn the fuel back on and see if it holds without even running the engine. Take the plugs out and also get all the fuel out of the cylinders after you get if fixed so it will not hydralic lock.Mike - One of the Montana Boys

carb issue
how is the float seated in that assembly. does it pull out, or do you have to remove what looks like an adjusting nut on the float stem. also, there's a rubber O ring inside the low speed adjustment needle on the base of the carb. is that a speical o ring, or can i get one anywhere? thanks

Go to this site yamatoracing.com and click on the "Owner Manual" bar. There you will see the a link to a 302 PDF. Scroll down and you will find an exploded view of the carb, it may hlep you.

if my memory serves me right... to take the float assembly out just dis-assemble the brass fittings where the fule line connects to the bottom of the float bowl, then just pull it out from the bottom.
my 302 was pissin' gas out of the high speed assembley as well... just needed to be tightned up(there are copper washers between the fittings and they just need to be snug to seal up good, then had to reset the needle.Mitch Knapton 44-CE
