I think I have got everything rounded up and taken care of. Now I just need to finish the boat.

      OEM 'H' flywheel

30H and 55H used the same flywheels. They were made in both versions, small taper (early) and large taper (late).

They are hard to find as they were made in far smaller quantities than the various service flywheels. And collectors want them for their 'perfect' show motors, making them pricey.

Do you have any detail pics (before and after or pic’s with pointers) on your “phase two”. The filler block post #18 above? I am just not picking up what you are putting down. I have never had one of these apart and I am a little lost.

If I am reading this correctly I heard you say that you did not separate the connecting rods from the crank; is this correct? If so, why not? I understand it’s a budget build but other than your labor, what is the cost driver that influenced you to not disassemble to that level for cleaning and inspection? If I read this correctly, then your rotating assembly installation into the block must have been a real lesson in patience. Reading what Sawyer and others have to say in threads 48 through 54, this technique must be popular; is it because the rod cap nuts are on the piston end instead of the free end of the rod? Can’t the pistons be installed conventionally and then the crank set into place?

I am real interested in learning more about megaphone theory. I understand how headers helps scavenging in my GTO and how an expansion chamber can ‘stuff’ flow-through fuel charge back into the cylinder but…I am still working on how a megaphone optimizes exhaust flow and power. I suspect that it could have something to do with the increasing volume of the pipe and its affect on ‘pressure’ but…I have read some conflicting literature and am a bit confused. Anyone got a good explanation?

              Thanks ricochet112,

Yea, I got expansion chamber theory but megaphones don't have anything to reflect the pressure wave off of like an expansion chamber does so...how does it...do what it....does to improve performance?

Sam, so we don’t hijack this thread any further I crated a thread titled "Megaphone Theory 101" in the rooky lounge for us to continue discussing; I would appreciate you meeting me there to help me clear a few things up. Thanks

I stand corrected. I have both a 30H and and 55H. The 30 has the small taper and the 55 has the large taper and I believed it to be an early version. However it had been rebuilt and may have had a large taper crank installed.

I want to put an inline fuel filter on this motor. Would you put it down by the tank or right by the motor inlet?

                    • We ran the motor for a couple seconds today and got the boat off the jig. We are ready to break in the engine on some water maybe Memorial weekend at our first race.
