I was looking for some help identifying the motor. It was my dads and he passed a few years ago. I know its a v4 looper and he spent a lot of time and money piecing it together. Can someone please help me figure out what this is and if its worth anything.

Here is a link to the pics

Thanks for any help you can provide

although there is a lot of "cross browsing"..............

between Hydroracer and another site called "Boat Racing Facts" you might want to post these pictures over there also. Perhaps the "OPC" Forum. There are a lot of folks that raced when these motors were very popular and perhaps they could help you identify it also. Perhaps even sell it if you were interested in that.

    Good Luck

Looks like a SST100 without the original gearcase. Can't see enough of the gearcase to know for sure which gearcase it is.

            v4 looper

There is a web site called "iboats".com go to the "johnson-evinrude"section,pose your question to them (tell them your engines model number) you'll get a response.

Looks like a morphing of parts. Cant tell what year the the gearcase is other than color, but that color was used from about '72 through early 80's. Brighter pics, and more inclusive pics, and, if you got one, serial number would tell where that tag came from.

Looks like an SST-100 motor and your dad was trying to block the hole where exhaust passed through in the tower and force it lower through the cavitation plate opening. The Lower unit also appears to from an I/O, I dont recall ever seeing an OMC product other than the I/O that used an exhasut outlet through the cavitation plate like that. There were aftermarket companies, Mach performance was one who made adapters for the 99 cubic inch cross flow gearcase to the Loop Charged motor.
I may be wrong, but dont think so. I saw the number on the gearcase, but are there any tags on the midsection? Typically you would find them on side of one of the boat mounting brackets.

Do you have the flywheel? I would like to see a picture of it from the top side showing the hole where the crank passed through.

What was he trying to do with that engine? It's almost like he was taking a racing motor and connecting a daily use gearcase.

I have a stack of flywheels and other assorted stuff. I just dont know which one fits and will work correctly.

He was building the motor to go on a 16ft v bottom boat and going really fast.
I know its not a off the shelf motor hence my problem. I will get pics of all the flywheels i have and post them tomorrow.

                      Not SST100:

With these pictures I take back what I said about being SST100. It's parts and peices of a fishing motor that have been cut and welded in many places.
