If i understand how the choke works (i believe it's the choke) on the yamato 302, it is activiated by a slide on the side of the carb which works a plunger in the carb cavity. Trouble is, mine seems to be stuck in that cavity. So stuck in fact, that it pulled the little barrel on the slide right off the wire that activates the plunger. Anyone had any experience with this?

any way of maybe squirtin a bit of carb cleaner in there to soak? sounds like it was corroded. i sent my carb off to tj for a complete overhaul with a bunch of new screws and jets that came in only to be the cost of a few cans of carb cleaner. he soaks it in an ultrasonic cleaner then hand cleans it when reassembles and tunes to your or his specs at his request.Which way was the shiny side supposed to go? Up?

I've been through that. If you take the carb off you will see a hole on the back flange up by the top. That is your choke curcit, it is in line with the rest of the choke mechanism and you should be able to see the plunger in there. Remove the threaded cap and spring and spray some penetrating fluid in the hole in the back and the hole in the side were the spring comes out. Let it soak for an hour or so and try it. It should move back and forth a little, the more you move it, the more it will move until it finally comes out. If it still does not move, strip the carb down to the body and put a little heat to it with a heat gun... not a torch. that has always worked for me, Ive had a few Y80s that were stuck pretty good. If you get into trouble with it and something breaks look me up, I have extra choke parts.Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.

im only so-so with carbs... i just ran down and took a look at my carb.. my carb is only a few years old, but i assume all the 302 carbs are the same within reason. theres a brass nut on the side where your wire goes through.. have you tried taking that off? (keeping in mind its soft brass). heat tends to loosen things up but on a carb i think i would recommend against it. tom johnston might be able to help517-451-9120 is his number... he could get you straightened out. hes a parts rep for yamato as well.Which way was the shiny side supposed to go?
