  • D mod powerhead question.

Looking at the APBA 2011 season. If I could race DMR, it would greatly open up my options. I'm considering a Merc powerhead to drop on my Bass towerhousing. Is the Merc 44 powerhead still available new? I would need the complete powerhead with all components.

    Thanks.

    Merc on a Bass

Jeff, I built a late model merc mod motor and run it on a Bass tower. Since your building it as a mod, you don't nessecarily need it to be "new". I built from the same block/ignition/crank assembly as the 44xs motor with almost all new components. I used the Bass tower so that I could keep my transom height the same as the 44xs, this gives you the option to participate in both stock and mod classes with the same boat setup.

When running at a stock/mod event, the only things that I have to do to change engines is disconnect/reconnect the throttle, kill switch, steering and shims. You may find the 750 mod runabout class gaining popularity in the region 6/7 area, maybe the DSR class will follow suit.
    Good luck with your build!

      Dsr?? /dmr

Jeff like I posted a few months ago drop the weight down in DSR and You might get more Mods to witch and run both. I have two DMr that have stock motor sitting ready to run DSR for the National if the weight is lowered if not I will just run one due to the weight I will have to add. DMR is a great class just got into it at national last year and i am hooked now. I have been a hydro guy since the 60 s now I am swithcing the last howray sort of say. I have planes to run three runnabouts this year in dmr and will try to run two of them in stock with a Toh and Mer. Maybe to Mod Comis will let the Tohatsu run in Dm this year but do not hold your breath. what a dumm a----- move to put then in with the 850 Just my train of thought which is worth >>>>>>>>>. You will have to redrill the bass tower to fit a Mer failrly sure about that bye

I'd like to hit an east coast race this coming season. I thought maybe there would be some DMR's over there to race with. (am I right?)

          Jeff,
On the east coast from Maine down to Georgia you will find at least 8 to 10 D Mod runabouts registered and a few more on trailers that are ready for loaners, you'd be hard pressed to find 3 DSRs. Drill that Bass tower or make a adptor plate, put together a 44 mod merc and come join the class, and welcome aboard!!

          Don't laugh.....it's borrowed!!

hey jeff... now you see why us D hydro guys had fits last yeas when a few idiots made sure the tohatsu never had a chance of being a better mod motor than the 44.

a couple guys here in in our region do just what you are talking about. kind of a shame one has to spend that much money to score points in another class with the same boat.

happy holidays to you and your family.
