  • OMC A stock question

Is it legal in A stock to have an Evinrude colored (blue) lower unit on a Johnson engine (white)? I have seen "mixed" paint colors on OMC engines over the last few years... what happens at the Nationals?
    Thanks

    Sidewinders Win, Don'T Stress!!!

Actually, I just bought two 15A's from Jason Harwick, Jimmy Dawe's step grandson, and one motor is a Johnson with an Evinrude clamp and Evinrude cowling. I was wondering the same thing, Pete?

But I'm going to turn my 15A's into Mercuries.....and Formula "A's"....

      Not an issue!

      Peter,

As long as the g/c bolted to engine passes tech you are fine.

It is not like the days when you could get tossed for missing pin stripes.

Back in the pin stripe inspection days my son folded a prop blade and gouged the back of the gear case. He slathered on Marine Tex and carefully filed it to match the OMC A gear case template. Then he painted it with a spray can on OMC paint - one model year off. 'Rude green but just a shade off original. Sure 'nuff the inspector griped about it. No DQ that day but the threat was always there.

          Peter:

As an inspector, I would not have an issue with mixed coilors.

            Pete,
First off, great seeing you at Taunton. It had been many years since I last talked to you.
As far as the colors go, one would think that since it has been RAMMED down our throat that the OMC IS NOT our engine of choice and there is no factory support from OMC they would at least let us choose what color we put on them.
I see Yamatos with powder coated color finishes and color anodizing on towers but was warned about any alterations to the OMC color scheme when running a bare gear case. Maybe some day before the OMC gets forced into retirement they will remove the color restrictions.
Oh crap,...Amy is planning on running her new Mercury at the Worlds. It has a puke blue Evinrude gear case on it. I better check and see if it will be legal.

Look forward to seeing you at the Worlds!
