My brother and I are developing a kill switch that will replace the double kill switch used in stock yamato racing. It also works on the popper and other similar two cyl. mercurys.
This switch has three terminals on bottom . When lanyard clip is pulled the plunger goes down and grounds both points at same time. Easy to hook up, one terminal is wired to engine block second terminal to one set of points, third terminal to second set of points, any wire can go on any terminal. The design is copied from the Konig switch that Tim was talking about. Testing has been completed and we will be making a 30 piece run this winter. Kill switches will be available next April. We will be making the Konig kill switch also. Samples are to be shipped to Ed Thirlby Sr. soon. Konig kill switch to have larger
thread to fit the Konig size hole in cockpit or bracket. Stock/mod kill switch will have smaller .625 dia thread that is common in stocks.

I would be interested in a couple of those switches when they become available, Marcus.

This summer I finally got my 20H on the water. In preparation to actually running, I did some bench testing of the kill switch setup. Initially, I tried the configuration that wires the 2 sets of points together. During some inquiries that I made, some people told me that it worked on their 20H, others said it didn't. I did not understand that. Either it works or it doesn't (I thought). Personally, I did not care for the results at all. I noticed when the tether was pulled one of the cylinders would fire anyway with every 5 or 6 revolutions of the flywheel. (Potential slow turning meat cleaver). I also noticed a slight degradation of the spark output.

So, instead, I wired and grounded each set of points separately using a 4 wire plug and 2 tether switches. Completely killed the ignition and no degradation of the spark. Works perfectly.

Hi Barry, I will let everyone know when they are done. Guys that already have the double kill switch probably will not change over to this switch but if you have a new boat on order this is definately the way to go. They will also work on any motor that only requires two wires, just don't use the third terminal.

Marcus - Put me down for two switches. Either diameter, doesn't matter. Thanks, Tim Chance

              Points out of time ?

I found if the points an the KG Merc are not 180 * apart the switch conecting the points will not kill the motor properly.

I'll probably take one or two of these. Let us know when you have pricing available.

I use them all the time with my 302's. Only need one lanyard and one switch. Never had a problem.

As Ric said, these style kill switches are already produced, and available. If you want the Konig style, contact Steve Litzell as last I heard Konny was still producing them. They do the exact same thing Ric's does, but at about twice the price.

As I remember the switch from konig was about $65. This was in the 1990's when I bought the first 302 on the West Coast.

We sent a M20H out to race last month, started normally, went up on plane, but ran ratty. Driver noticed kill switch not plugged in, did so, and it ran smooth.
Some how those Phelon mags, when linked together, or linked to a common ground [same thing], will still fire.
Most do not, and you will kill both sides by grounding the points.
Any one with insights on this?
Ive connected the points of a MK25 to a switch to ground them to each other for a kill & when testing the plugs would spark yet it worked & shut the motor off. Im wondering if the plugs were sparking 180 degrees out?

                                Kill Switches

These are the kill switches that Marc is talking about.
They are machined from black acetyl and you can get them
in two different size mounting holes and a choice of spade
connectors or a three pole plug.
